...Assurances of the safety have offered no comfort to people protesting the expansion of SmartMeter technology into their living spaces. Last month, Marti Kheel, an environmental author and visiting scholar at UC Berkeley, rushed with another protester to confront Julius Genachowski, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

The two unfurled a banner that demanded 'Stop SmartMeters' at Genachowski s April 14 appearance at the Commonwealth Club s Silicon Valley branch in Mountain View. Genachowski listened as they shouted their alarm over health effects...

SmartMeter resistance

PG&E has installed 8 million SmartMeters throughout Central and Northern California, and plans to attach them to all 10 million of their customers' homes by 2012. Nationwide, by 2015 some 100 million SmartMeters are predicted to replace analog meters, funded in part by billions of dollars in federal stimulus money to improve the efficiency of the nation s electrical grid.

The protest against SmartMeters has spread to the point that, at last count, eight counties and 31 cities in California have written official expressions of concern about SmartMeters, with questions about their safety, cost-effectiveness and privacy threats, or have passed largely symbolic moratoriums on their installation. These include Berkeley, Fairfax, Marin County, Monterey, Novato, Richmond, San Francisco, San Rafael, Santa Cruz County, Seaside and Watsonville. Law enforcement officers have declined to enforce the bans, as state law puts regulation of utilities in the hands of the California Public Utilities Commission.

Several other protesters among the surprised Mountain View audience stood to accuse wireless technologies of causing a range of health problems, such as cancer, fatigue, headaches, memory loss and other ailments.

'This is a technology that does not belong in residential neighborhoods,' Kheel said before Genachowski s talk, as she stood with about a dozen others on a street corner holding picket signs with statements about SmartMeters' health dangers. ...

Uncertainties

Still, in addition to the National Institutes of Health, other health and science organizations affirm the deficit of knowledge about long-term effects of continuous exposure to wireless signals.

'Cumulative or prolonged exposure to lower levels of radio frequency are not well understood,' the California Council on Science and Technology report said.

'Additional research and monitoring is needed' to understand how tiny but regular exposure to wireless radiation from SmartMeters and other wireless devices of comparable strength, such as Wi-Fi and baby monitors, might affect the human body. ...

A UC Berkeley researcher concurred with these organizations, saying he thinks the jury is out on biological effects of EMR at the levels found in wireless devices.

'Any kind of strong claim on either side is clearly premature, in my mind,' said Joel Moskowitz, director of the Center for Family and Community Health. But he also said that 'high-quality studies' on cellphone use, typically those funded by non-industry sources, 'found much closer association with risk.' ...

Im Dezember 2006 bringt eine Eisbärin im Berliner Zoo zwei Junge zur Welt. Sie nimmt beide nicht an. Eines stirbt, das andere heißt KNUT.

Der Pfleger Thomas Dörflein bezieht im Tierpark ein Zimmer, um den kleinen Eisbären aufzuziehen.

Im März 2007 wird Knut Publikums- und Medienwirksam der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. 3 Tage später stirbt die Pandabärin Yan Yan im besten Alter am Darmverschluß.

Beim Pfleger Dörflein wird Anfang 2008 ein Blasenkrebs diagnostiziert, Im September 2008 stirbt er an einem durch Thrombose ausgelösten Herzinfarkt mit 44 Jahren.

Im März 2011 stirbt Knut an einem Virus, der das Gehirn befallen hat.

Im April 2011 stirbt der Elefant Shaina Pali an einem Herpes-Virus.

Eine überschlagsmäßige Berechnung ergibt, daß die Mobilfunkstrahlung im Zoo 10.000 µW/m² beträgt. (10 mW/m²) (Die abgestrahlte Leistung der auf den Tierpark gerichteten Mobilfunk-Sektorantennen geteilt durch die Zoofläche.) Da kommen Gedanken auf, ob ein Zusammenhang bestehen könnte. Zwar sollen auch in freier Wildbahn Tiere ihre Jungen verweigern, aber warum? Ist es vielleicht so, daß Tiere instinktiv erkennen, daß es unter gegebenen Lebens-Bedingungen keinen Sinn macht, die Kleinen großzuziehen? Der Zusammenhang zwischen Krebs und Mobilfunk ist bekannt und erst recht die Thrombosegefahr. Ein Darmverschluß kann auch durch Thrombose ausgelöst werden.

Wieviel 'Tierfreunde' bei der Knut-Vorführung mit dem Handy telefoniert haben und die Belastung damit noch erhöht haben, läßt sich nur erahnen. Insofern kann man in diesem Punkt den Chinesen recht geben, die einen Schadenersatz für den Panda fordern. Oder ist es vielleicht artgerecht, einen Panda-Bären mit Mobilfunk zu bestrahlen? Ein Tod durch eine (Herpes)-Virus-Erkrankung ist ein Versagen des Immunsystems, auch wenn Elefanten dafür anfällig sein sollten. Die Wirkung der Mobilfunkstrahlung auf das Immunsystem ist längst bekannt. Wer glaubt, obige Zusammenhänge immer noch leugnen zu können, kann z.B. folgenden Link lesen:

The sad series, that we thought over, seems to have no end. An AFP release reports that on Tuesday 26 April, a 57-year employee of France Telecom-Orange, working in the agency of Mérignac (Gironde) ended his day by burning themselves to death in the car park of the agency where he worked. The company s management, who said they were 'shocked,' immediately went there in the person of Delphine Ernotte, Executive Director of Orange France and Metling Bruno, director of human resources. A psychological unit was set up in the attention of fellow employee s suicide.

According to Sebastian Crozier, National President of the union CFE-CGC/UNSA France Telecom Orange, who responded to the antenna i-TV, the employee, whose name is unknown and the function had been 'very affected by the period of redeployment, job cuts' introduced by the former management of the operator. In 2004, under the direction of Didier Lombard, a plan had been put in place to encourage departing employees 22,000 over three years.

And if the new management of the company, with at its head Stéphane Richard, has introduced a package of measures to allay the discomfort, sources inside the company suggest that the meaning of the message has not reached a number of 'little executives'.
