If it has been established that heavy use of cell phones can cause brain tumors, then the governments, industry, WHO, the psychiatry industry can no longer claim that EHS (electro magnetic sensitivity) dose not exist!! May 18, 2010: Today?s release of the final results of the ten-year long World Health Organization INTERPHONE Study confirms previous reports showing what many experts have warned ? that regular use of a cell phone by adults can significantly increase the risk of glioma by 40% with 1640 hours or more of use (this is about one-half hour per day over ten years). Tumors were more likely to occur on the side of the head most used for calling. David Carpenter MD MPH, BioInitiative Report co-editor and Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at University at Albany, Rensselaer, NY says that "While this study is not perfect, the risks documented in it must be taken seriously as a warning to limit cell phone use, to restrict the use of cell phones, especially by children, and to call on manufacturers for redesign of cell phones and PDAs. It should also serve as a warning to governments that the deployment of new wireless technologies may bring risks to the public that are widespread, involuntary and increase long-term health care costs."

The study appears in the International Journal of Epidemiology. Thirteen teams from countries around the world combined their results.

Michael Kundi, head of the Institute of Environmental Health, Medical University of Vienna says of the study "Authors emphasize that no increased risk was detected overall. But this is not unexpected. No exposures to carcinogens that cause solid tumors like brain cancer or lung cancers, for example from tobacco and asbestos have ever been shown to significantly increase cancer risk in people with such short duration of exposure. The latency period for brain cancer is 15-30 years."

The INTERPHONE findings lend support to previous studies from Sweden´s Orebro University Hospital, University of Utah and UC Berkeley where meta-analyses have all reported increased risk of glioma when combining results of brain tumor studies.

Lennart Hardell, Orebro University, Sweden concludes "The final INTERPHONE results support findings of several research groups, including our own, that continuing use of a mobile phone increases risk of brain cancer. We would not expect to see substantially increased brain tumor risk for most cancer-causing agents except in the longer term (10 year and longer) as is the case here in the population of regular cell phone users."

"The patients included in this study were 30-59 years old, excluding younger and older users. Use of cordless phones was neglected in the analysis. Radiofrequency radiation from some cordless phones can be as high as mobile phones in some countries, so excluding such use would underestimate the risk.?

With more than four billion cell phone users around the world, the potential for a brain cancer epidemic leads experts to call for changes in cell phone design, warnings, and a ban on use by children. Children are more at risk than adults from the effects of most toxic exposures in life, including both chemicals and radiofrequency radiation from cell phones. Experts are worried about the effects of radiofrequency radiation on the developing brain and nervous system of children.

Public health warnings were raised in the BioInitiative Report on possible risks from cell phones and other exposures to electromagnetic fields (EMF) in 2007. It advised against the continuing deployment of sources of EMF and radiofrequency radiation from wireless technologies in advance of health studies, and argued for new biologically-based public safety limits to deal with emerging risks from new technologies. Results of the INTERPHONE study provide strong confirmation of the importance of these warnings.

Casual users - no increased risk. Regular, casual, "normal" users are not at risk. Whereas normal users are not at risk, abnormal users are at risk. While in reality it's the opposite: "normal" regular users are at risk, the "abnormal" who barely talk- are the ones who are not at risk. This only illustrates how twisted the INTERPHONE is. It's upside down.

Note - The Interphone Study and the various ways that it has been reported, have muddied the waters of EMF safety once again. If anyone has doubts about the danger of cell phones, they should look at the huge number of studies which detail the health effects of microwave radiation. Those studies have been ongoing for over sixty five years and the adverse health effects are well established.

The result of the interphone study are not surprising. The metrology for the study are imprecise. Instead of looking at the cancer link, I would be looking for evidence increased neurodegenerative disease due to RF exposure.

Working form theory it would be expected that exposure to RF would exacerbate neurotoxic effects causing cell death at the point of exposure and bystander effects. For example under particular circumstances exposure to GSM modulated, 900 MHz signal is shown to act as a co-stressor for oxidative damage of neural cells resulting in neurodegenerative disease and immune system impairment.

Wer über das Mobilfunknetz auf seinem Laptop im Stadtpark Computerspielen möchte, wird heute noch enttäuscht. Die bisherige technische Ausstattung ist dafür unvollständig. Dies ist nur ein Beispiel für die technische Rückständigkeit, unter der wir leiden, ohne es bislang zu merken. Doch das lässt sich ändern. Das Verlangen nach Erweiterung des Mobilfunks bei Verbrauchern kann geweckt werden.

Eins jedoch ist schon längst realisiert: Über Basisstationen (Mobilfunktürme) sind nicht nur ein oder zwei oder drei parallele Netze aufgebaut (warum brauchen wir mehr als eins?), sondern viele verschiedene, und die uns so erreichenden Wellen überlagern sich gegenseitig und verunmöglichen die Berechnung des Einflusses eines einzelnen Netzes. So kommt es nun auf ein paar Netze zusätzlich auch nicht mehr an.

Zwar ist die Diskussion über die erheblich höheren biologischen Risiken der UMTS Technik gegenüber den älteren Netzen noch relativ jung, überholt ist sie aber durch die technische Wirklichkeit schon längst, und der Staat verdient kräftig mit. Zur Zeit läuft die zweite Versteigerungsaktion für Frequenzen, die u.a. zur Realisierung des nachstehend Beschriebenen gebraucht werden. Deshalb ist es heute nicht mehr in erster Linie wichtig, ob ein Mobilfunkturm in der Nachbarschaft steht, sondern welche Netze darüber betrieben werden.

Und noch bedeutsamer erscheint die Beliebigkeit, mit der neue Bedürfnismärkte auf dem Feld der sich wandelnden Mentalität der Bevölkerung erschlossen werden. Es sieht so aus, als wäre diese gemäß Marktbedürfnissen beliebig formbar geworden. Macht Mobilfunktechnik das, was wir als Notwendigkeit und als Bedürfnis empfinden und bezeichnen, zum Jonglierspiel, mit die Industrie je nach Gewinnerwartung neue Varianten erprobt?

Dieter Moor hat seinem Buch über die Provinz Brandenburg den Titel ?Was wir nicht haben, brauchen Sie nicht? gegeben und erhob so das Geschäftmotto eines Tante-Emma-Ladens schmunzelnd zum Synonym seiner ?Geschichten aus der a...freien Zone? (Untertitel des ro-ro-ro-Sachbuches 62475).

Bezogen auf die Mobilfunkindustrie braucht man das nur umzudrehen: ?Sie brauchen, was wir haben?. Jedenfalls sind die dem Markt gemäße Formbarkeit von Verbraucherverhalten, die Produktion subjektiver Bedürfnisse und die profitgerechte Definition des Gefühls von Notwendigkeit längst feste Operationsgrößen in den mittelfristigen Planzielen der Marktstrategie von Mobilfunkbetreibern geworden.

?Grenzen gabs gestern. Heute habe ich meine Freunde immer dabei? ? so lautet eine großformatige Werbung von T-mobile für Handys.

Dass uns jede Information jederzeit ohne Verzögerungseffekt überall sofort zugänglich sein soll, dass pure Natur nirgendwo mehr alleine existiere, dass wir an keinem Ort der Welt mehr alleine und ohne knopfdruckgesteuerten Zugriff auf Rettungssysteme eigenverantwortlich auf uns gestellt seien, diese Vorstellung bezeichne ich als Perversion des Denkens und des Empfindens. Mobilfunktechnik macht sie zur selbstverständlich gewordenen Grundstimmung ganzer Generationen.

Erstmals in der Geschichte der Menschheit verliert sich die Wichtigkeit für Menschen, eigenverantwortlich präventiv zu prüfen, ob eine riskante Situation betreten werden kann. Belastungen auszuhalten und auch die positive aus dem Alleinsein erwachsende Psychodynamik ? diese zur Bewältigung des Lebens wichtigen Spannungsbögen werden immer weniger trainiert. Die Tragweite, was das im Gefühl der Menschen, in der Kommunikation, im Selbsbewusstsein, im Verhalten und auch in den politischen Entscheidungen verändert, können wir uns noch gar nicht vorstellen. Möglicherweise ist die Auswirkung dieser Verschiebung von Mentalität aber gleich groß oder sogar noch bedeutsamer als die individuellen gesundheitlichen Belastungen der Mobilfunktechnik.

Die folgenden Zitate sind dem Wirtschaftsteil der Süddeutschen Zeitung vom 8. Mai 2010 entnommen. ?Schneller, besser und billiger?? so soll der neue Standard die nächste Stufe der Mobilfunkentwicklung sicherstellen, mit dem Begrenzungen der Computerspiele im Stadtpark endlich fallen. Dem dient die derzeitige Versteigerung der Sendefrequenzen durch die Bundesnetzagentur. ?Zwar bringt die Neuerung für den Verbraucher erst einmal keinen nennenswerten Vorteil, aber schon in einigen Monaten sollen dann Endgeräte auf den Markt kommen, die neue Bedürfnisse schaffen, zum Beispiel Computerspielen? über Mobilfunknetz. ?Aber auch andere Mobilfunk-Nutzungsmöglichkeiten können sicher neu erfunden werden. Den Leuten wird schon irgend etwas einfallen, um das Netz auszulasten?, sagt ein hochrangiger Industrievertreter. Und weiter: ?Bislang funktionierte das immer auf diese Weise. Es gibt eine praktisch unbegrenzte Nachfrage nach Bandbreite. Wenn die vierte Netzgeneration einmal da ist, lässt sie sich bestimmt auch irgendwie verkaufen.? Gesichert ist jedenfalls, dass sich die Industrie von der neuen Generation des Mobilfunks künftig viel Umsatz versprechen kann.

Weil diese Zitate reißerisch und überzeichnet wirken können (es aber leider nicht sind), wird nachfolgend der Text des gesamten Artikels wiedergegeben:

Stockholm - Auf den ersten Blick sieht der schwarze Quader, der da seitlich aus dem Laptop ragt, wie ein ganz normales Mobilfunk-Modem aus. Aber für Lars Klasson ist das kleine Gerät eine Box voller Träume - der Technik-Vorstand des schwedischen Mobilfunkbetreibers Telia gerät ins Schwärmen. Was da vor ihm auf dem Podium summt, ist für ihn nicht weniger als der Beginn der "dritten mobilen Revolution", mit der schon in wenigen Jahren "alles vernetzt" wird.

Tatsächlich birgt Klassons unscheinbares Rechnerzubehör eine echte Neuerung: Als erstes Unternehmen der Welt betreibt Telia nämlich ein kommerzielles Mobilfunknetz mit dem neuen Standard "4G". Schneller, besser und billiger soll es sein. Ob das stimmt, können seit Anfang des Jahres einige ausgewählte Kunden in Oslo und Stockholm testen.

4G, manchmal auch mit dem Kürzel LTE bezeichnet, ist Hoffnungsträger der Mobilfunkbranche. Nach dem weltweiten Ausbau der herkömmlichen GSM-Netze und dem Durchbruch von UMTS (auch: 3G) soll der neue Standard nun das nächste große Geschäft werden. In mehreren Ländern werden bald schon 4G-Netze entstehen, nach Norwegen und Schweden sollen nun unter anderem Ballungsgebiete in den USA und China folgen. In Deutschland ist man noch nicht ganz so weit: Dort läuft gerade die Versteigerung der Sendefrequenzen, die einmal für die Netze der vierten Generation genutzt werden sollen. Insgesamt verkauft die Bundesnetzagentur sechs Frequenzblöcke, um die sich E-Plus, O2, T-Mobile und Vodafone bewerben.

Ob mit 4G wirklich eine "mobile Revolution" beginnt, wie Klasson meint, bleibt allerdings abzuwarten. Für den Verbraucher in Schweden und Norwegen jedenfalls bringt ein 4G-Abonnement erst einmal keine großen Neuheiten, wohl aber eine Reihe von Verbesserungen. Die wichtigste ist, dass das Internet deutlich flotter wird. Telias 4G-Modem überträgt in Stockholm Daten mit 100 Mbit pro Sekunde etwa doppelt so schnell wie ein normaler UMTS-Anschluss. In einigen Monaten sollen dann Endgeräte auf den Markt kommen, die sogar dreimal schneller als UMTS sind - und weitere Steigerungen sind in Aussicht. Letztlich wird die vierte Generation der Mobilfunknetze wohl bis zu fünfmal mehr leisten können, als die dritte. Zudem hat das neue Netz wesentlich kürzere Reaktionszeiten, was unter anderem für Computerspieler ein wichtiger Vorteil ist, aber auch den Aufbau komplexer Webseiten stark beschleunigt.

Die wichtigsten Neuerungen durch 4G aber seien jene, meint Klasson, die noch gar nicht erfunden seien. Der Manager ist sich aber sicher, dass den Leuten schon irgend etwas einfallen wird, um das Netz auszulasten. Bislang funktionierte das immer auf diese Weise: Je leistungsstärker die Internetzugänge wurden, desto größer wurde auch die zu übertragende Datenmenge. "Es gibt eine praktisch unbegrenzte Nachfrage nach Bandbreite", sagt Klasson. Anders gesagt: Wenn die vierte Netzgeneration einmal da ist, lässt sie sich bestimmt auch irgendwie verkaufen.

Ähnlich sieht man das bei Ericsson, dem weltweit größten Ausrüster von Mobilfunknetzen, der auch Telias 4G-System in Stockholm baut. Ericsson verspricht sich von der neuen Generation des Mobilfunks künftig viel Umsatz, allerdings nicht nur wegen des steigenden Bedarfs an schneller Datenübertragung. Neben der Geschwindigkeit habe 4G eine Reihe von weiteren Vorteilen, erläutert Marie Westrin, Chefin der Forschungsabteilung bei Ericsson. Im Gegensatz zu früheren Mobilfunkgenerationen sei 4G von vorne herein für Internet und Datenübertragung konstruiert. Damit vereinfache sich die Technik hinter einem mobilen Breitbandanschluss. Das System ist Westrin zufolge auch wartungsfreundlicher. Langfristig könnten die Netzbetreiber dadurch Betriebskosten senken.

Die schwedischen Erstkunden merken von diesem Sparpotential nichts. Denn Telia lässt sich seine superschnelle Weltneuheit gut bezahlen. Etwa 60 Euro monatlich verlangt das Unternehmen in Stockholm für ein 4G-Abo. Unbegrenztes Surfen nicht inbegriffen: 30 Gigabyte darf der Nutzer pro Monat übertragen, dann wird die Geschwindigkeit gedrosselt. Richtig schnell surft man vorerst ohnehin nur in der Stockholmer und Osloer City - erst im Laufe des Jahres werden 25 weitere Städte und Urlaubsgebiete in Schweden mit 4G abgedeckt.?

?Interphone-Studie?: Krebsrisiken durch Mobilfunk bleiben weiter ungeklärt

Berlin: In den heute in der Zeitschrift ?International Journal of Epidemiology? veröffentlichten Ergebnissen über den Zusammenhang von elektromagnetischer Handystrahlung und dem Auftreten von Hirntumoren sieht der Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND) keinen Grund zur Entwarnung. Die Umweltschutzorganisation kritisierte außerdem das Studiendesign der sogenannten ?Interphone-Studie? der Weltgesundheitsorganisation WHO. Die Studie habe unter praxisfernen Bedingungen stattgefunden. ?Regelmäßige Mobiltelefonnutzer? seien in der im Jahr 2000 gestarteten Langzeitstudie beispielsweise bereits jene, die ihr Handy über einen Zeitraum von sechs Monaten mindestens einmal pro Woche nutzen. Inzwischen habe sich jedoch das Nutzungsverhalten von Mobilfunkteilnehmern geändert. Solche Nutzer seien nach der eigenen Definition der Mobilfunkunternehmen ?Wenigtelefonierer?. Die Interphone-Studie enthalte deutliche Hinweise, dass Intensivnutzer von Mobiltelefonen ein erhöhtes Krebsrisiko hätten.

Bernd Rainer Müller, BUND-Mobilfunkexperte: ?Selbst die Wissenschaftler, die die Studie durchgeführt haben, schließen erhöhte Krebsrisiken durch Mobiltelefone nicht aus. Deshalb muss der Gebrauch von Handys vor allem bei Kindern und Jugendlichen eingeschränkt werden.?

Das Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz (BfS) müsse industrieunabhängige, neutrale Informationen zu der von Handys und Funkmasten ausgehenden Strahlung liefern und Aufklärung über die möglichen Folgen der Handynutzung gewährleisten, forderte der BUND.

I write you today with a song in my heart. It seems Interphone is finally going public about cell phones and brain tumors (although the usual media spin on the results have already begun, down playing the brain cancer aspect). I'm sure you've heard about this by now, but more will be revealed this week.

Anyway, I wanted to give you an update on our trip to Washington, DC last week, lobbying for The Children's Wireless Protection Act, a bill calling for a brain cancer warning label (with possibly softer language at the federal level, although we may have the juice we need now to stick with the brain cancer label) on all cell phones and the packaging. The meetings went SPECTACULAR, even before this new news of Interphone.

So, we met with a total of 35 reps from Congress and the Senate, 5 of these meetings were direct, in person with the Congressman or Senator, about 7 meetings with top legal staff on committees and reps, etc., and the rest with the legislative directors...the legisaltive directors are hugely important to this process. Sometimes legislators don't even read a bill, they just depend on their legisaltive directors to tell them how to vote!!!

Of those meetings, we received 2 or 3 offers of potential authorship (a legislator must author the bill in order for it to be introduced), 20 potential commitments of co-sponsorship - 15 of which are pretty solid commitments and about 5 direct on the spot, YES, I will co-sponsor and one, "I want to author this bill immediately"!!! There is of course the possibility that we will not even need a bill, just have a hearing and the FDA is forced to slap a warning label on the cell phone, and we are pushing for this, but the general consensus was that we may have to have a bill. But that may all be different now with the release of Interphone. We will see. Also, the resounding request from most of the supporters was "Don't blow my cover until after I get re-elected in November!" They are afraid of publicly supporting this bill for fear of industry backlash, supporting their opponent and ousting them from office. So they do not want to be public on this until mid-terms, when they are re-elected. Very understandable.

State side, the bill is being brought again in Maine this year and we have a commitment from a senator in CA to bring it as well!!! CA makes up 10% of the US, so this could prove to be a game changer for the federal level if we have any trouble at all moving the bill there.

Additionally, legislators in DC have expressed interest in viewing the testimonies in Maine, so we have uploaded most of the videos from the hearings that were held in March. Here is a link where we posted them on our website for viewing...

Also, we had to form another group that is allowed to spend 100% of it's efforts on lobbying (non profits are limited in this capacity). It is called The American Association for Cell Phone Safety and comprised primarilly of cell phone radiation victims who are pissed and want to do something about this!!! Some of the members are in law suits against industry from cell phone induced brain tumors, some have been damaged by their cell phones but do not have a brain tumor, some are just plain old worried about their children.

Below is my response to the BC Cancer Agency's pathetic interpretation of Interphone

Dear Ms. Colina: I write in response to the BC Cancer Agency's flawed interpretation of the recently released Interphone study results. It seems that depending on reporter or scientist bias, the results of this study are interpreted differently. As a freelance journalist who has been studying this issue for three years now, I can tell you two important facts that the report below overlooks:

1) an analysis of an earlier draft of Interphone by over 40 doctors, scientists and health professionals concluded that there were significant methodological flaws in the study, calling its validity into question; and 2) there are literally thousands of other studies, some going back to the early 1970s done by the US military (but kept secret until recently), showing serious biological harm from exposure to microwaves in the frequency spectrum typically used by cell phones.

The best meta-analysis done to date on some 2,000 studies is still the BioInitiative Report ( http://www.bioinitiative.org ), which?in contrast to the Interphone study?received no funding from the telecommunications industry. That the principle of conflict of interest has been so grossly ignored in the case of the Interphone study is shameful. Why else would it have taken so many years to release the results except that even with this poorly designed study, there were serious indications of increased risk of brain tumours from prolonged cell phone use?

The BC Cancer Agency does itself a disservice relying on Ms. McBride's strange, plainly wrong interpretation of Interphone. You are placing thousands of British Columbians at further risk by claiming there is no risk to using cell phones, especially to children who are more vulnerable. This is shameful, when there are plenty of studies to demonstrate risk. We should proceed, not on 100 percent scientific certainty as the industry would like, but on the Precautionary Principle.

Attached is the document analyzing the flaws in the Interphone study. Kindly pass it along to Dr. McBride and make it available to your clients should they require more information on this subject.
