Aspens have been rapidly dying throughout Colorado since 2004. The attached article, ?Adverse Influence of Radio Frequency Background on Trembling Aspen Seedlings: Preliminary Observations?, published in the International Journal of Forestry Research (Volume 2010 (2010), Article ID 836278), indicates that man-made ?radio frequency radiation may be adversely affecting leaf and shoot growth and inhibiting fall production of anthocyanins associated with leaf senescence in trembling aspen seedlings?. The effects observed suggest that exposure to RF from everyday background sources that have been proliferating in our lives unchecked, and assumed by many not be harmful, may be an underlying factor in the recent rapid decline of aspen populations.

Electromagnetic pollution has skyrocketed with the growth of the wireless industry, since the early 1990s. Currently, wireless exposure guidelines for humans assume a 30-minute exposure, in contrast to 24/7 exposures that are common. As with cell phone RF exposure guidelines, which assume only a 6-minute exposure, not only are the guidelines based on highly unrealistic assumptions of exposure duration, but they are basing the recommendations on physics considerations, not on biology.

This week, Congressman Dennis Kucinich announced his intention to introduce legislation that includes an update of decades old wireless radiation safety guidelines.

Members of the European Academy for Environmental Medicine (EUROPAEM) in April 2010 addressed an urgent appeal to European environment and health ministers, - Commission, -Parliament and other organizations. Greatly concerned about the increasing prevalence of a group of chronic multisystem illnesses (environmentally related illnesses including chemical, biological and EMF-agents, with similar pathological mechanisms) they urge these groups to takes these findings serious and financially invest more in prevention, precaution and best early detection etc.

This appeal will put Chronic Multisystem Illnesses higher on the political EU-agenda as ?environmentally related illnesses?. Also a connection is made with possible EMF-triggers.

Possibly, IEMFA-relations with EUROPAEM can be intensified in future, as a follow-up.

The Research of Dr. Zorach ("Zory") R. Glaser

In 1971/72 Dr. Zorach ("Zory") R. Glaser published a bibliography that provided more than 2,300 references on the bioeffects of RF/MW radiation. At that time he worked for the US Navy and he later worked for NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) and the Food and Drug Administration. During the years he has accumulated more than 6,000 documents in this field that include research from eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, from the US Military, and from the US government, documents that have had limited distribution.

These documents are being scanned as searchable pdfs and will be made available from the electrosensitivity website ( http://www.rewire.me ) in the coming months.

For those who think there is no proof that non-thermal effects are biologically active . . . stay tuned! Not only is there proof but the US government and military were aware of the harmful effects more than 50 years ago. Internal attempts to alert key military and government committees that this radiation was harmful and that guidelines needed to be reduced, went unheeded. Abstract

Objectives

The mechanisms that produce tinnitus are not fully understood. While tinnitus can be associated with diseases and disorders of the ear, retrocochlear diseases and vascular pathologies, there are few known risk factors for tinnitus apart from these conditions. There is anecdotal evidence of an link between mobile phone use and tinnitus, but so far there have been no systematic investigations into this possible association.

Methods

100 consecutive patients presenting with tinnitus were enrolled in an individually matched case?control study. For each case a control subject was randomly selected from visiting outpatients matched for sex and age. The patient's history was obtained and clinical examinations were conducted to exclude patients with known underlying causes of tinnitus. Mobile phone use was assessed based on the Interphone Study protocol. ORs were computed by conditional logistic regression with years of education and living in an urban area as covariates.

Results

Mobile phone use up to the index date (onset of tinnitus) on the same side as the tinnitus did not have significantly elevated ORs for regular use and intensity or for cumulative hours of use. The risk estimate was significantly elevated for prolonged use (?4 years) of a mobile phone (OR 1.95; CI 1.00 to 3.80).

Conclusions

Mobile phone use should be included in future investigations as a potential risk factor for developing tinnitus.
