Ab September 2012 will Indien seine Grenzwerte für elektromagnetische Felder (EMF) von Mobilfunk-Basisstationen auf 1/10 der derzeit gültigen Werte absenken. Die erlaubte Leistungsflussdichte für Mobilfunknetze, die mit einer Frequenz von 900 MHz arbeiten, wird auf 0,45 Watt pro Quadratmeter (W/m2) abgesenkt, die für 1800 MHz-Netze auf 0,9 W/m2. Die Entscheidung geht auf ein Gutachten und die Empfehlung eines interministeriellen Gremiums aus dem Jahr 2011 zurück, in dem Forschungsergebnisse zur den Auswirkungen hochfrequenter EMF von Mobilfunk-Basisstationen und Mobiltelefonen ausgewertet worden waren. Obwohl das Komitee darin zu dem Schluss kam, dass es keinen Nachweis für einen direkten Zusammenhang zwischen Emissionen und Gesundheit gibt, empfahlen die Experten als außerordentliche Vorsorgemaßnahme die Grenzwerte auf 1/10 der im Jahr 2008 eingeführten ICNIRP-Grenzwerte zu senken. Rajan S. Mathews, Generaldirektor des Verbandes der indischen Mobilfunknetzbetreiber, sieht in dieser Grenzwertabsenkung keine Vorteile für die Gesundheit, sondern lediglich Nachteile für die Mobilfunkabdeckung. Es müssten mehr Basisstationen gebaut werden, um entstehende Lücken zu füllen, wodurch die Gesamtexposition steigen werde.

Am 30.07.2012 berichtet die Hindustan Times, dass ein Ausschuss des Ministeriums für Telekommunikation (DoT) die Forderung der Netzbetreiber nach einer Aussetzung der Entscheidung zur Grenzwertsenkung mit der Begründung abgelehnt hat, dass die Wahrung von öffentlicher Gesundheit und Sicherheit für das Ministerium ebenso wichtig sei wie eine effiziente Mobilfunkabdeckung. Auf Grundlage vorhandener Informationen komme man zu dem Ergebnis, dass die Absenkung der Grenzwerte für nur fünf Prozent der vorhandenen Antennenstandorte problematisch sein könnte. Weiter berichtet die Zeitung, dass der Ausschuss auch Forderungen der Handyhersteller nach einer Verschiebung des Termins für die Einführung von strikteren Grenzwerten für Mobiltelefone abgelehnt hat. Ab dem 1. September solle der SAR-Wert von Handys auf 40% des derzeitigen Grenzwertes von 2 Watt/kg heruntergesetzt

IARC 2B-Einstufung weiter in der Diskussion

Das Wissenschaftsforum EMF veranstaltete im Juli 2012 eine Fortsetzung des Fachgesprächs ''Mobilfunk: Möglicherweise krebserregend! 2B und wie weiter?'', vom Dezember 2011. Die Veranstaltung befasste sich erneut mit der Bewertung des Mobiltelefonierens als ''möglicherweise krebserregend'' (Einstufung als 2B) durch die internationale Behörde für Krebsforschung, IARC. Neben der Diskussion der Studienergebnisse ging es vor allem um die Verbesserung der 2B-Kommunikation.

Prospektive Studie untersuchte Zusammenhang zwischen pränataler Magnetfeld-Exposition und Übergewicht im Kindesalter

Ein Forscherteam am Kaiser Foundation Research Institut in Oakland, Kalifornien, unter Leitung von De-Kun Li hat in einer prospektiven Kohortenstudie untersucht, ob eine vorgeburtliche Magnetfeldexposition das Risiko von kindlichem Übergewicht erhöht. Die teilnehmenden Frauen trugen während der Schwangerschaft ein Messgerät, mit dem die Höhe der Magnetfeldexposition erfasst wurde. Bis zu 13 Jahre lang wurden dann von 733 ihrer Kinder die Wachstumsparameter mit durchschnittlich 33 Gewichtsmessungen pro Kind klinisch erfasst. Es zeigte sich, dass Kinder mit einer hohen pränatalen Magnetfeldexposition häufiger eine Fettleibigkeit entwickelten als Kinder mit einer niedrigen Magnetfeldexposition (Chancenverhältnis 1,69; 95% Vertrauensintervall 1,01-2,84). Der Zusammenhang zeigte eine Dosis-Wirkungsbeziehung und war bei solchen Kindern ausgeprägter (mehr als ein 2,3-fach erhöhtes Risiko), die bis zum Ende der Studie beobachtet wurden. Die Assoziation zeigte sich nur für die bleibende, und nicht für die vorübergehende Form der Fettleibigkeit. Die Forscher folgern aus den Ergebnissen, dass eine hohe mütterliche Magnetfeld-Exposition während der Schwangerschaft ein neuer und bisher unbekannter Faktor für die weltweite Epidemie der Fettleibigkeit/des Übergewichts von Kindern sein könnte.

Dabei wird auch über die neue Situation berichtet, die durch die Stellungnahmen der Weltgesundheitsorganisation WHO und des Europäischen Rats, des höchsten EU-Gremiums, entstanden sind. Prof. Dr. Dr. habil. Klaus Buchner arbeitete an der TU München, am Max-Planck-Institut München und in Kyoto am Institut von Prof. Yukawa, dem Entdecker der Kernkräfte. Er ist Mitglied der Akademie der Wissenschaften in Messina/Italien und Träger der Goldenen Verdienstmedaille der Universität Breslau/Polen.

In India s southern state of Tamil Nadu, bird deaths are rising. Some local believe that cell phone towers are to blame... that may be emitting high amounts of radiation, causing miscarriages in birds.

Cell phone radiation is leading to bird deaths and a decrease in their population in the Dharmapuri region of India's Tamil Nadu state.

The region has witnessed a drastic fall in the bird population over the past couple of months. Environmentalists are convinced that the abundance of cell phone towers is the cause.

[Sarvanan, Environmentalist]:

"The main reason for their extinction seems to be the cell phone towers that emit harmful radiation, which affect these tiny creatures. Experts have proved this. Also, the egg laying birds often have miscarriages due to the radiation."

Most of these birds have started to disappear over the past five years... ever since the towers were put on top of buildings.

Some locals think that the radiation from the cell towers could harm people in the near future.

[Paramasivam, Concerned with Towers]:

''The main reason behind the extinction of these birds is the harmful rays emitted by the cell phone towers. And we strongly believe it is now the birds' turn, but very soon this will also affect humans.''

The rising death of birds in the area has raised concerns among environmentalists who fear that it might lead to a fall in the numbers of certain rare species of birds.

In Carmel hospital they are working on solutions without complicated surgeries.

Thousands of Israelis go through surgeries every year because of head and neck tumors. Many researchers claim that smoking and increased use of cell phones cause salivary gland, tongue, throat and the neck tumors, that sometimes send metastases to the brain.

Head and neck surgeries are complicated and require high expertise. Removing tumors from the mouth and neck area include sometimes reconstruction of parts of the throat and neck with advanced technics. A study of Dr. Mayan Gruber from Carmel hospital studied the causes of development of head and neck tumors. He studied a specific enzyme (parnas) known to be involved in cancer development. These days he is concentrating in finding new ways to stop the development of the tumor in early stage and thus to fight it and the disease. ''I hope that by a better understanding of the process of cancer development we will be able to stop it and thus prevent more complex surgeries and enable treatment and better hope for the patients. Prof' Ilana Duek leads the department of head and neck tumors in Carmel hospital, she is considered as one of the most talented neurosurgeons in the area of head and neck surgeries. She serves as responsilbe for the connection between the faculty of medicine in the Technion in Haifa and Carmel hospital.

Dr. Gruber won in chosen research work at the annual research day, ''and the work certainly deserves praise and support of continued research'', said prof' Moshe Fligelman, the responsible on research day in Carmel hospital.

The hearing is at 9 am on August 9 at the James R. Browning Courthouse at 95 7th St. in San Francisco. Here is the link:

The first hearing was in U.S. District court last October and was quite fascinating. It is complicated but SF claimed victory but the CTIA appealed and SF has cross appealed.

The more the better, let s show San Francisco and the nation (other cities and states are watching closely as they too want to legislate but have been threatened with lawsuits) that we support their amazing efforts to stay in this battle as they could have repealed the legislation. We have Supervisor Avalos to thank for introducing new language and saving our right to know!

Those battling cell towers, smart meters, EHS, MCS and others should be concerned as to how this plays out in the court. We all need to ban together in our efforts. I applaud all of you for your tenacity in the face of horrible adversity.
