I wrote this article in support of many people in California who are already suffering serious health problems from their new smart meters. It is currently on the Front Page of the August Newsletter of MCS-America at
Please feel free to share it with all who already are, or shortly will be, affected.

Parents Appeal Cell Towers at Schools
A group of Montgomery County parents say the county s Board of Education violated state law by renting public school property to cell phone companies for cell towers.
At the link http://www.dtechsepm.com under 'smart meters' are interesting facts about the limitation of these meters to identify pre-meter power divergence which attributes to 96% of power theft. The Ontario Energy Board confirms this:
'Theft of power may be detected more easily if it involves meter tampering. However, theft accomplished by tapping conductors before they reach the meter would not be detected by smart metering.' Ontario Energy Boards 'Smart Meter Initiative' Working Group
According to the founder of dTech who has studied power theft in depth, only 4% of power theft occurs at the meter. Without further expensive infrastructure investments theft at the conductor cannot and will not be detected.
This is the second article I have sent you which refutes the entire reason for this billion dollar program.
I ask you, Premier Clark and Mr. Coleman, were you aware of this fact? How can you justify continuing with a program for which there is absolutely no business case?
I look forward to receiving a response.
Yours truly,
Sharon Noble

I have made several updates to the Solutions page and Smart meter page, including instructions on how to shield transmitting meters while you work on getting them removed. I have also included links to the press release from Maine and information about filing a complaint with the NY State PSC (non-New Yorkers can do this as well). I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to file complaints - it took 40,000 complaints from Katrina victims to get the issue of contaminated building supplies to get attention. I know that there are probably that many people out there, but you all have to do your bit and file complaints or no one will know what happened - or care. Our numbers are our strength.
NYS State Public Service Commission - Even persons who are not residents of NY State can file a complaint with them about AMR, transmitting, or 'smart' utility meters. This can be done by emailing them at: secretary@dps.state.ny.us with 'Smart Grid Case # 10E0285 Complaint Dangerous 'smart' Meter" in the subject line or by filing a complaint at http://documents.dps.state.ny.us/public/MatterManagement/CaseMaster.aspx?MatterCaseNo=10-E-0285 using Case # 10-E -0285
I have added information that might help with getting a doctor s letter requesting that the transmitting meters be removed. There is even a simple sample letter which will, of course, need customizing.
I have added a link to the parent-run website dedicated to getting WiFi removed from schools due to the health hazards it poses for children. http://www.safeschool.ca
I hope that you find this information helpful.
Best, Catherine

Chronically ill, according to the Basque Parliament
24.07.11 - 02:37 - M. J. C. | BILBAO.
Ailments named under the umbrella of 'central sensitivity syndrome' (SSC) have reached the Basque parliament with the EB party. Their only representative in the House of Vitoria, Mikel Arana, has promoted the adoption of a resolution for other official bodies aware of conditions such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) and electrohipersensibilidad (EHS). All groups supported the idea and approved a resolution urging the Basque Government to take steps to ensure that EHS and MCS are included by the World Health Organization on the list ICD (International Classification of Diseases), which recognition as an illness means, as has happened with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Although currently there is no clear evidence about the effects on health are chemicals and electromagnetic radiation, it is true that some people sick if they say they have about an issuer of unnatural substances or waves. In a more concrete level, the Parliament wants the Basque Health treat those who suffer any of these four conditions as if they were chronically ill. And none of these diseases is now cured.

Parliament calls for a rational use of mobile phones among children
Calls to 'minimize possible' exposure to electromagnetic fields
e.p. - Thursday, October 6, 2011 - Updated at 05:41 pm
victory. The Basque Parliament yesterday joined a resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe, which warns of the 'potential risk' of electromagnetic fields and their effects on the environment and urged the promotion of campaigns against 'excessive use' mobile phones among children.
The resolution, which stemmed from an initiative of Aralar, raises the Basque Government to follow the recommendations made both the EU and the World Health Organization on the use of mobile phones by people of all ages.
The Chamber urged the Executive to adhere to the resolution of last May s Parliamentary Assembly Council of Europe warns of the potential risk of electromagnetic fields and their effects on the environment. The Assembly is committed to 'minimize possible' exposure to electromagnetic fields, especially the children mobile phone, among other things.
Finally, ask the government agreed not to discard the approval of a law in this area, for the protection of health and invited the Executive to campaign against 'excessive use' of mobile phones among children.
In a statement, the parliamentary Aralar, Dani Maeztu, noted that the House adhere to a decision of the European Assembly which recognizes that 'you should review the scientific basis of current regulations, recognizing that current values are obsolete'. 'To protect children s health, recommends the implementation of information campaigns and portable devices that emit microwaves, and prioritizes the use of cable connections in schools,' he said.
'Residents Shun Proposed Tower', Lunenburg County Progress Bulletin,July19,2011.
In April,2010, a health conference was held in Ottawa to investigate the health effects associated with the exposure to the radiation emitted from telecom towers and radiation powered devices such as cell phones, cordless telephones, baby monitors and other wireless devices powered by micro- and radiowaves.
At this conference in 2010, Scientists from around the world presented to government representitives, scientific evidence of the harm caused to people and the environment including vegetation, animals, insects and mammals. Individuals presented personal evidence of the damage to their health as a result of living close to telecom and cell towers.
These Scientists recommended that Health Canada s Safety Code 6 be updated to include the health effects of long term exposure to telecom towers and wireless devices and that a more accurate safe distance in the placement of telecom towers be established with the participation of the provincial and municipal communties. Presently Safety Code 6 takes into account only thermal effects, that is, the heating of an object or occupational workers.
In May 2011, the World Health Organization issued a precautionary warning in the use of cell phones. WHO reported that the exposure to electromagnetic fields emitted by mobile phones (which includes cordless phones) could possibly cause cancer including an increased risk of in a malignant type of brain cancer.
At the request of WHO, 31 Scientists from 14 Countries met in Lyons, France to discuss and evaluate the health effects associated with exposure to radio and microwaves. They concluded that cell phone exposure may induce brain cancer, bone disease to name only some of the health effects.
The Federal Telecommunications Act regulates the licensing for the airwaves and must approve the actual contruction of the tower. However, the recommendations for the placement are only guidelines and not mandatory thus requiring consultation with the municipalites. Until provinces and communities develop by-laws to protect to health of Nova Scotians, regulating the placement of these towers to a safe distance this situation will continue with the placement of towers too close to homes and environments.
I urge Mayor Feeney to say no to the placement of the tower and take a stand in this increasing health crisis where many have become ill with some dying from cancer.
I urge Mayor Feeney to put the health of the residents first and give them the benefit of the precautionary warning issued by WHO that these towers may be a cause of many illnesses including cancer.
I urge residents to visit the web site of Magda Havas, PHD, a professor at Trent University who has done extensive research on this. Her web site is http://www.magdahavas.com .
I urge residents of Lunenburg County to visit the Canadian website http://www.citizensforsafetechnology.org and inform themselves of the health effects of long term exposure to telecom towers and radio attennae and wireless devices like cell phones and cordless phones.
I urge residents of Lunenburg to make known to Mayor Mawhinney their objections to the installation of the new telecommunication device presently being added to the three existing telecom antennae on the roof of the BellAliant building on Lincoln St.

J.Carroll
