Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?

Here is a link to a very important article in Atlantic magazine titled 'Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?' https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/09/has-the-smartphone-destroyed-a-generation/534198/ by a top US psychologist. This is based on long-term observational data. I wrote to her, saying that I had studied 'attention' in the classroom in South Africa in the 1980s. In nearly 20 years in teaching, I never saw one case of ADD in black students. Now, I told her, the ADD rate is 100%, I see signs of it in every child I teach. She has not replied yet, but I was basically thanking her for an important article.
