Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, a two-time presidential candidate who for the past decade has been the most consistent critic of war and militarism in the US House of Representatives, was defeated Tuesday in a Democratic primary that pitted him against fellow progressive Marcy Kaptur. Kucinich was the first electoral victim of the current round of redistricting, which saw congressional districts redrawn in states across the country after the 2010 Census. A Republican governor and legislature carved up northern Ohio districts with an eye toward eliminating at least one Democratic seat, and they achieved their goal by forcing Kucinich and Kaptur into the same district...

Here is the 'red line' the Israelis have been demanding: not the act of building a nuclear weapon but evidence 'they are making that attempt.' That is, evidence of their intent to do so, without any corroborating evidence they have actually succeeded. The catch is that such an 'assessment' based on fresh intelligence would be just as impossible to check as it was in the run-up to the Iraq war, when US officials assured us Saddam was making the Bomb and citing all sorts of completely invented 'intelligence' to back it up. In short, we won t find out if we were lied into war until well after the war has started, devastating the region, the world economy, and all hopes for peace...

Am Sonntag jährt sich der GAU von Fukushima und immer noch werden jede Woche neue Fakten über das Zustandekommen der Katastrophe und die Haltung der Verantwortlichen und Betreiber vor und nach dem Erdbeben ans Licht gebracht, die die übelsten Vorstellungen übertreffen.

''Ich stamme aus Fukushima-City in der Präfektur Fukushima. Ich bin dort geboren und aufgewachsen. Seit dem 11. März 2011 wünsche ich mir, nicht sagen zu müssen woher ich komme, wenn ich jemanden zum ersten Mal treffe. Und das obwohl Fukushima, meine einzige, schöne Heimat ist und eine reiche Natur und schöne Landschaft hat. Sie ist wegen der Explosion des Atomkraftwerks bekannt geworden. Die Region ist zum Synonym für die Atomkatastrophe geworden. Hier in Deutschland, 9.000 km von Japan entfernt, fühlt sich für mich das Unglück vor etwa einem Jahr wie ein Ereignis aus der Vergangenheit an. Oder sogar als sei es eigentlich gar nicht passiert. Solange ich hier bin, kann ich es vielleicht verdrängen. Aber das atomare Unglück ist Realität, man kann es nicht mehr ändern.
