Wir wünschen den Verletzten baldige Genesung.'

Drei Tote innerhalb einer Woche zeigen auf grausame Weise, dass jeder weitere Kriegstag die Gewaltspirale in Afghanistan eskalieren lässt. Es ist höchste Zeit, diesen Krieg zu beenden und die Bundeswehr unverzüglich aus Afghanistan abzuziehen. Der Einsatz der Bundeswehr hat alle seine Ziele verfehlt. Wer Frieden für Afghanistan will und den Aufbau demokratischer, ziviler Strukturen und die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung unterstützen will, muss den Weg für Friedensverhandlungen frei machen und den Kriegseinsatz beenden. Die Bundeswehr muss endlich und unverzüglich raus aus Afghanistan. Der Abzug der Bundeswehr aus Afghanistan ist das Beste für die Sicherheit der deutschen Soldaten.

If Joblessness and Hopelessness Undermine Democracy in the Middle East, What About Here at Home?

Dave Lindorff, This Can't Be Happening: 'Unemployment in Egypt among young men and women is about 30%. In Tunisia, it is over 40%. The White House claims that with figures like that, the future for democracy in those countries is tenuous. But wait a minute. What about the US? Unemployment and underemployment here is still up around 20% overall, and it is much higher among young people. Black youth unemployment fell so far in 2011 to an official rate of 44% from 50% last year (because so many young workers just gave up trying to find work!). Among Latino youth, the official unemployment rate is stuck at around 30%. Overall, youth unemployment, according to the official Labor Department figures, is 20%, but remember, the official rate does not count those who are working part time who want full-time work, and does not count those who have given up looking for work.'

Zur Situation auf dem deutschen Arbeitsmarkt im Monat Mai erklärt die Bundesgeschäftsführerin der Partei DIE LINKE, Caren Lay:

Letzte Woche stellte Ministerin von der Leyen im Kabinett einen umfassenden Katalog geplanter Kürzungen bei den arbeitsmarktpolitischen Maßnahmen und Instrumenten vor. Man könnte glauben, die Arbeitslosigkeit sei in Deutschland nahezu ausgestorben. Doch das Gegenteil ist richtig. Im Mai waren in Deutschland offiziell 2,96 Millionen Menschen ohne Erwerbsarbeit, bereits hier wird in Größenordnungen in der Statistik gestrichen. DIE LINKE hat auch in diesem Monat nachgerechnet und kommt auf 4,064 Millionen Arbeitslose. Die millionenfache Erwerbslosigkeit wird schlicht als gegeben hingenommen. Das ist ein gesellschaftlicher Skandal ? aller Beteuerungen der Ministerin zum Trotz. Von der Leyens aktuelle Streichorgie bei den arbeitsmarktpolitischen Instrumenten hat fatale Konsequenzen. Denn sie hängt viele Menschen einfach ab. Die Bundesregierung fordert immer mehr von Erwerbslosen und fördert sie gleichzeitig immer weniger. Eine aktive Arbeitsmarktpolitik war vor dem Spar-Wahn schon Mangelware, und wird es nun noch viel mehr. Das vermeintliche Jobwunder spielt sich hauptsächlich in der Leiharbeit, dem wachsenden Niedriglohnbereich und anderen prekären Beschäftigungsformen ab. Opfer sind vor allem Langzeitarbeitslose und Bezieherinnen und Bezieher von Hartz IV. Aktuelle Studien belegen, dass die Vermittlung aus Hartz IV in Arbeit durchschnittlich 13 Monate dauert. Das ist viel zu lang. Die christlich-liberale Kahlschlagpolitik ist zutiefst antisozial und zynisch. DIE LINKE fordert eine aktive Arbeitsmarktpolitik, die diesen Namen auch verdient und die Menschen in existenzsichernde, sozialversicherungspflichtige Arbeit bringt, damit sie davon leben können.

Wir AtomkraftgegnerInnen haben Grund zum Feiern: Sieben bis acht AKW werden endgültig stillgelegt. Damit war nicht nach der Bundestagswahl zu rechnen und schon gar nicht nach dem schwarz-gelben Beschluss vom Herbst 2010, das Atomrisiko zu verlängern. Dass es anders kommt, hat mit Schockwellen aus Japan zu tun - aber nicht nur. Es ist ein Erfolg der Anti-AKW-Bewegung, weil sich Hundertausende aktiv dafür eingesetzt haben, das Atomrisiko abzuschalten. Weil dadurch die Abschalt-Stimmung da war und der Druck auf die Bundesregierung, wirklich zu handeln. Ohne Druck tun sie das nicht.

Wir AtomkraftgegnerInnen haben Grund, wütend zu sein und weiter Druck auszuüben. Denn einen Atomausstieg hat die Bundesregierung überhaupt nicht vereinbart. Neun Atomkraftwerke sollen weiter laufen und unser Leben bedrohen. Was die Regierung als 'Atomausstieg bis 2021/2022' verkauft, ist eine Katastrophe, denn mit der Beibehaltung der Reststrommengen-Regelung ist das Atomrisiko nicht befristet. Die AKW-Betreiber können weiter mit Stromkontingenten jonglieren und so verhindern, dass eine ganze Reihe von Meilern zum jetzt angekündigten Zeitpunkt stillgelegt werden.

The bottom half of humanity is living in severe poverty;.. they are extremely vulnerable to even small upsets in their income or in the prices they face of basic necessities... Given the total income and wealth available in the world today, we could easily overcome poverty, which would require raising the share of the bottom half from three to roughly five percent.
