Matthew Penney and Mark Selden, The Asia-Pacific Journal: 'On April 12, 2011 the Japanese government officially announced that the severity of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster had reached level 7, the highest on the International Nuclear Event Scale. Before Fukushima, the only level 7 case was the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, whose 25th anniversary was marked on April 26. Two and a half months after the 3.11 catastrophe, the first to affect multiple reactors, TEPCO and the Japanese government continue to struggle to bring the reactors at Fukushima Daiichi under control. TEPCO estimates that the problems could be solved in six to nine months now appearing extraordinarily optimistic and plans have been announced to close nuclear power plants deemed of particularly high risk such as the Hamaoka facility.'

Unser Beileid gilt den Angehörigen und Freunden des in Afghanistan getöteten Bundeswehrsoldaten und den Verletzten. Der Anschlag verdeutlicht, dass sich die Situation in Afghanistan weiter zugespitzt hat und auch die Bundeswehr zunehmend als Teil des Problems gesehen wird. Die Schüsse, die von Bundeswehrsoldaten vergangenen Mittwoch auf Demonstranten in Talokan abgegeben wurden, verstärken diese Entwicklung. Solange die Bundeswehr an der Aufstandsbeekämpfung beteiligt ist, wird es keine Sicherheit für die Soldaten geben.

Atomausstieg als Geschäftsmodell für die Atomkonzerne

Anlässlich der aktuellen Greenpeace-Studie zu den Konsequenzen der Ereignisse in Fukushima und den Ausstiegsplänen der Regierung aus der Atomenergie, erklärt die Vorsitzende der Partei DIE LINKE, Gesine Lötzsch:

Die Studie belegt, Deutschland ist ebenso wenig wie Japan auf einen Super-Gau vorbereitet. Die Bundesregierung gibt vor, so schnell als möglich aus der Atomenergie aussteigen zu wollen. Doch die vielen Hintertüren, die sie für die Atomkonzerne offen hält, weisen darauf hin, dass ein schneller Atomausstieg gar nicht gewollt ist. Der Verzicht auf dieBrennelementesteuer ist zudem ein Beleg dafür, dass die Energiewende ausschließlich von den Bürgerinnen und Bürger gezahlt werden soll. Die Atomkonzerne werden sich den Ausstieg von der Bundesregierung vergolden lassen. DIE LINKE hat eine Exit-Strategie mit Anti-Atom-Verbänden und Initiativen entwickelt. Der Atomausstieg ist danach bis 2014 machbar. Es wird länger dauern, wenn die Stromkonzerne weiter mit all ihrer Wirtschaftsmacht gegen die Energiewende vorgehen können. Deshalb muss die Macht des Stromkartells gebrochen werden.

The bill opposed collective bargaining rights, required annual votes to ask workers if they wanted the unions to represent them and prevented unions from collecting dues automatically out of workers' paychecks. Anlässlich der jüngsten Äußerungen von Kanzlerin Merkel zu den Ausstiegsplänen der Regierungskoalition aus der Atomenergie, erklärt die Vorsitzende der Partei DIE LINKE, Gesine Lötzsch:

Bundeskanzlerin Merkel kriecht im Schneckentempo zum Atomausstieg. Der Kniefall vor Atom-und Wirtschaftslobby ist als Grundsatz ihrer Regierungspolitik einzementiert. Wer sich erst 2022 von der Kernenergie verabschieden will, riskiert bewusst die Sicherheit von Menschen. Merkel will den Ausstieg an die Wand fahren, indem sie AKW-Betreibern Tür und Tor für Klagen öffnet. DIE LINKE hat eine Exit-Strategie mit Anti-Atom-Verbänden und Initiativen entwickelt. Der Atomausstieg ist bis 2014 machbar. Der Atomausstieg muss im Grundgesetz verankert bin. DIE LINKE fordert, die Strompreiskontrolle wieder einzuführen und die Entmachtung der Stromkonzerne.
