I have been thinking a lot about war lately. This is partly due to the U.S. Postal Service s government-granted monopoly on delivering first-class mail. See, I recently discovered that the stamps with the odd shape I have been using for a while, and slapping on envelopes upside down, are commemorating the Purple Heart. As most of you probably already know, the Purple Heart is an attempt to make us all feel better about the damage done to individuals who were unlucky enough to get physically wounded or killed by our nation-state s involvement in various wars...

The suicide rate for female soldiers triples when they go to war, according to the first round of preliminary data from an Army study. The findings, released to USA TODAY this week, show that the suicide rate rises from five per 100,000 to 15 per 100,000 among female soldiers at war. Scientists are not sure why but say they will look into whether women feel isolated in a male-dominated war zone or suffer greater anxieties about leaving behind children and other loved ones.

Now, the administration needs to follow through on this commitment to international law by ensuring that foreign military intervention remains within the four corners of what the UN Security Council has approved. Krieg ist auch in Libyen keine Lösung

Zur Libyen-Resolution des UN-Sicherheitsrates erklären die Vorsitzenden von Partei und Fraktion DIE LINKE, Gesine Lötzsch, Gregor Gysi und Klaus Ernst:

'Mit der Resolution des Sicherheitsrates der Vereinten Nationen droht aus dem Bürgerkrieg in Libyen ein international geführter Krieg zu werden. So richtig es ist, Gaddafis mörderischem Treiben Einhalt zu gebieten, so falsch ist es, dies mit Krieg erreichen zu wollen. Auch Frankreich, Großbritannien und die USA wissen, welch hohes Risiko mit der Einrichtung einer Flugverbotszone und der faktischen Freigabe von militärischen Interventionen durch den Sicherheitsrat verbunden ist. Die Charta der Vereinten Nationen wird verletzt. Deutschland hat im Weltsicherheitsrat die militärischen Entscheidungen nicht vorangetrieben. Diese Haltung wird nun aus den Reihen von SPD und Grünen kritisiert. Die Kritik ist falsch. SPD und Grüne machen sich wieder zum Vorreiter eines kriegerischen Abenteuers. Sie nutzen dafür das längst widerlegte Argument von Schröder und Fischer, Krieg wäre auch in diesem Falle die 'Ultima ratio'. Für DIE LINKE gilt: Krieg ist die Ultima irratio. Wir werden einem Krieg für Öl und einer deutschen Beteiligung daran auf keinem Fall zustimmen. Die Bundesregierung von Union und SPD hat den libyschen Diktator mit den von ihr 2006- 2009 genehmigten Rüstungsexporten von über 83 Millionen Euro aufgerüstet und den Krieg gegen die eigene Bevölkerung für Gaddafi führbar gemacht. Sie hat zu wenig getan, um den wirtschaftlichen Druck auf die Machthaber in Libyen zu erhöhen. Öl- und Geldströme wurden nicht konsequent unterbrochen, ein weltweiter Stopp für Rüstungs- und Munitionslieferungen nicht durchgesetzt. Eine Hilfe in der Flüchtlingsfrage wurde nur nebenbei betrieben. DIE LINKE fordert, eine Kriegsbeteiligung der NATO auszuschließen. Die Bundesregierung muss ihre Enthaltung im Sicherheitsrat nun in politisches Handeln umsetzen und auf Großbritannien, Frankreich und die USA mäßigend einwirken. Deutschland darf sich weder unmittelbar noch mittelbar an einem militärischen Eingreifen beteiligen. Deutschland muss sich dafür einsetzen, dass unter dem Dach der Vereinten Nationen ernsthaft über einen Waffenstillstand aller Konfliktparteien verhandelt wird. Eine militärische Eskalation muss verhindert werden."

Die Vorsitzenden der LINKEN, Klaus Ernst und Gesine Lötzsch, erklären zum Beginn der internationalen Militärintervention in Libyen:

Die Militärintervention ist keine Lösung sondern eine Verschärfung des Konflikts. Aus einem Bürgerkrieg ist ein international geführter Krieg geworden. Es droht eine Eskalation mit unabsehbaren Folgen. Wir fordern die Bundesregierung auf, entschieden bei ihren NATO-Partnern Widerspruch gegen das Bombardement einzulegen. Bundeskanzlerin Merkel muss unverzüglich mit Präsident Obama sprechen und ihn von der Notwendigkeit einer friedlichen Lösung überzeugen. Krieg schafft keinen Frieden. Demokratie kann man nicht herbeibomben. Unsere Botschaft an alle Kriegsparteien lautet: Die Waffen nieder! Wir fordern einen sofortigen Waffenstillstand. Es müssen sofort Verhandlungen auf der Grundlage eines allgemeinen Gewaltverzichts und einer Anerkennung der völkerrechtlichen Standards beginnen.

Merkel erklärte ein Festhalten an der Atomkraft als Brückentechnologie, wetterte gegen die Opposition und betonte die Mär, die deutschen Atomkraftwerke gehörten zu den weltweit sichersten Reaktoren. Wenn sie Atomausstieg mit Augenmaß fordert, bedeutet das gleichzeitig 'Augen zu' bei der Sicherheit. Was braucht es noch, dass die Atomhardliner verstehen, dass die Brücke spätestens jetzt zusammengebrochen ist?

Ermutigend hingegen ist, dass sich die Menschen in diesem Land nicht länger mit leeren Worten abspeisen lassen, dass der Druck auf der Straße und in der Bevölkerung immer weiter wächst, und dass immer mehr bereit sind, Flagge zu zeigen. Das ist wichtig, denn jetzt kommt es darauf an, die Tricks der Atombefürworter zu entlarven und dafür zu sorgen, dass es wirklich kein Weiter-So gibt.

Atomparteien und Atomlobby machen gemeinsam Wahlkampf

'Die AKW-Betreiber halten noch still, um die Atomparteien an der Macht zu halten', erklärt die Vorsitzende der Partei DIE LINKE, Gesine Lötzsch, zur Abschaltung alter AKW durch die Kanzlerin. Gesine Lötzsch weiter:

Wieder gibt es eine unheilige Allianz zwischen den Atomparteien und der Atomlobby. Man könnte meinen, dass die Betreiber ihr gutes Recht in Anspruch nehmen und gegen die Entscheidung der Kanzlerin, die sieben Alt-AKW abzuschalten, klagen. Das tun sie nicht, noch nicht. Sie warten die anstehenden Landtagswahlen ab, um anschließend der Bundesregierung ihre Entschädigungsforderungen zu präsentieren. Die Zeche sollen dann die Bürgerinnen und Bürger in Form von höheren Strompreisen zahlen. DIE LINKE fordert die dauerhafte Abschaltung der alten AKW sowie den schnellen Ausstieg aus der Atomtechnologie in Deutschland und in Europa. Wir brauchen einen Atomausstieg, der wirklich wasserdicht ist, einen Atomausstieg, den eine andere Regierungnicht einfach über Nacht kündigen kann. Wir fordern die Kanzlerin auf, keine Deals mit der Atomlobby auf Kosten der Bürgerinnen und Bürgern abzuschließen. Wir brauchen sofort wieder eine Kontrolle der Strompreise, damit die Atomlobby die Krise nicht nutzt, um daraus Profit zu schlagen. Es gibt keinen Grund, die Strompreise zu erhöhen. Die Bürgerinnen und Bürger haben bei den anstehenden Wahlen die Möglichkeit, die Atom-Parteien abzuwählen. Wir brauchen Landesregierungen und eine Bundesregierung, die den Mehrheitswillen der Bevölkerung umsetzen. Wenn diese Regierungen das nicht wollen oder können, dann müssen sie abtreten.

ePetition 'Atomkraftwerke sofort abschalten!'

Aufgerüttelt durch die schrecklichen Ereignisse in Japan werden viele Menschen in Deutschland aktiv, um die sofortige Abschaltung aller AKWs in Deutschland durchzusetzen.

Neben den vielen anderen Aktionen, die jetzt anlaufen, ist aus den Reihen der Südwestdeutschen Antiatom-Initiativen die Idee entstanden, eine ePetition zum sofortigen Atomausstieg beim Deutschen Bundestag einzureichen.

Wir haben einen Petitionstext erarbeitet und ihn am 14. März als Petition beim Deutschen Bundestag eingereicht. Nach Bearbeitung durch die Bundestagsverwaltung wird die Petition dann in ca. zwei Wochen zeichenbar sein. Ihr könnt Euch jedoch schon vorab bei uns eintragen und, wenn Ihr wollt, ein Statement abgeben. Sobald die offizielle Zeichnungsfrist beginnt, werdet Ihr dann von uns umgehend benachrichtigt.

Aus!Sitzen: Start einer bundesweiten Kampagne gegen S21 Parkschützer laden in die Hauptstadt des Widerstands ein

Stuttgart, 14. März 2011: Kurz vor der heutigen Montagsdemonstration besetzten die Parkschützer die Schillerstraße vor dem Stuttgarter Hauptbahnhof. Zum Auftakt der Kampagne Aus!Sitzen. verteilten sie über tausend Strohsäcke an die Teilnehmer der Demonstration und forderten sie auf, sich zu ihnen auf die Straße zu setzen.

Die Parkschützer wollen mit der Kampagne Aus!Sitzen. den endgültigen Ausstieg aus dem Prestigeprojekt Stuttgart 21 erreichen. Für die kommenden Wochen sind mehrere Aktionen geplant. Höhepunkt der Kampagne ist eine gewaltfreie Sitzblockade am 23. und 24. Mai, die parallel zum ersten bundesweiten Aktionscamp in Stuttgart stattfindet. Dazu laden die Parkschützer, Robin Wood und die Anstifter vom 20. bis zum 24. Mai 2011 nach Stuttgart ein.

?Wenn Stuttgart 21 auch nach den Landtagswahlen nicht gestoppt wird, ziehen wir die Notbremse und sitzen den Baustopp aus?, erklärt Matthias von Herrmann, Pressesprecher der Parkschützer. ?Wir haben in den vergangenen Jahren alles versucht, um Stuttgart 21 zu stoppen. Doch jeder Einwand, den Umweltverbände und Bürgerinitiativen in den vergangenen 15 Jahren vorgebracht haben, sind systematisch übergangen worden. Ein erstes Bürgerbegehren zu Stuttgart 21 mit 67.000 Unterschriften wurde verhindert, der monatelange Protest zehntausender Menschen zunächst ignoriert, dann diffamiert.

Mit der Sitzblockade Ende Mai wollen die Parkschützer für mehrere Tage die Bauarbeiten am Tiefbahnhof lahm legen. Dazu werden an die tausend Aktive aus dem ganzen Bundesgebiet erwartet. Die Parkschützer wenden sich an alle Bürger, die im vergangenen Jahr zu Tausenden in Stuttgart, in der Region, aber auch landes- und bundesweit für mehr Demokratie auf die Straße gegangen sind. Stuttgart 21 ist in erster Linie ein Prestigeprojekt, mit dem Steuergelder des Landes und der Kommunen verfassungswidrig zweckentfremdet werden. Dieses Geld muss u.a. für die Einstellung von zusätzlichen Lehrern, die Ausstattung von Universitäten, für Krippen- und KiTa-Plätze eingesetzt werden. Gleichzeitig muss die Bundesregierung in sinnvolle Schienenprojekte wie Elektrifizierung und mehrgleisigen Streckenausbau investieren statt in das nutzlose Prestigeprojekt S21.

Die Landtagswahl Ende März entscheidet, wer in Zukunft Baden-Württemberg regiert. Der Auftrag an die neue Regierung stehe jedoch heute schon fest: Stuttgart 21 muss gestoppt werden. Parkschützerin Gudrun Merkle vom Kampagnen-Team: ?Mit uns wird es weder ein Stuttgart 21 noch ein Stuttgart 21 Plus geben. Wir lassen nicht zu, dass weiter gegen Sicherheitsrichtlinien und Gesetze des Denkmal-, Arten- und Klimaschutzes verstoßen und die demokratische Verfassung unseres Landes mit Füßen getreten wird.?

Die Atomparteien in die Schranken weisen

'Die große Mehrheit der Bevölkerung will kein Moratorium, sondern den schnellen Ausstieg aus der Atomenergie', erklärt die Vorsitzende der Partei DIE LINKE, Gesine Lötzsch, zur Diskussion über eine Aussetzung der AKW-Laufzeitverlängerung. Gesine Lötzsch weiter:

Die Kanzlerin will die Verlängerung der AKW-Laufzeit aussetzen. Das macht sie nicht, um ihre falsche Entscheidung zu überprüfen, sondern in der Hoffnung, dass sich die Gemüter schnell wieder beruhigen. Die Aussetzung der Laufzeitverlängerung ist ein billiges Ablenkungsmanöver. Wenn es nach der Kanzlerin und den herrschenden Atom-Parteien geht, dann soll alles so bleiben, wie es ist. Der normale Menschenverstand sagt doch, dass man solche Technologien, die das Leben von Millionen von Menschen bedrohen, abschalten muss. Doch bei dieser Regierung ist der normale Menschenverstand ausgeschaltet. Sie hat sich mit Haut und Haaren an die Atomlobby verkauft. Doch die Menschen sind nicht bereit, sich der Atomlobby zu opfern. DIE LINKE fordert die sofortige Abschaltung der alten Atomkraftwerke, den schnellen Ausstieg aus der Atomtechnologie in Deutschland und in Europa sowie ein Exportverbot für Atomtechnologien. Wir brauchen einen Atomausstieg, der wirklich wasserdicht ist, den eine andere Regierung nicht einfach über Nacht kündigen kann. Die Bürgerinnen und Bürger haben bei den anstehenden Wahlen die Möglichkeit, die Atom-Parteien abzuwählen. Wir brauchen eine Bundesregierung, die den Mehrheitswillen der Bevölkerung umsetzt. Wenn diese Regierung das nicht will oder kann, dann muss sie abtreten.
