Michigans GOP Governor Slashes Corporate Tax Rate by 86 Percent, Hikes Taxes for Working Poor

Pat Garofolo, ThinkProgress: 'As we've been documenting, several conservative governors have proposed placing the brunt of deficit reduction onto the backs of their states public employees, students, and middle-class taxpayers, while simultaneously trying to enact corporate tax cuts and giveaways. Govs. Rick Scott (R-FL), Tom Corbett (R-PA), and Jan Brewer (R-AZ) have all gone down this road. Following suit, Gov. Rick Snyder (R-MI) has proposed ending his state's Earned Income Tax Credit, cutting a $600 per child tax credit, and reducing credits for seniors, while also cutting funding for school districts by eight to ten percent. At the same time, as the Michigan League for Human Services found, the state's business taxes would be reduced by nearly $2 billion, or 86 percent ...'

Wisconsin 'Budget Repair Bill' Protest

'Das Haushaltsgesetz hat gestern den Senat passiert. Die Protestierenden kämpften seit dem 15. Februar gegen das Gesetz, das die gewerkschaftlichen Rechte der öffentlichen Angestellten massiv einschränkt. Das Gesetz sieht u.a. vor, dass die öffentlichen Angestellten nicht mehr kollektiv über ihre Renten und Gesundheitsvorsorge verhandeln dürfen. Bei Lohnverhandlungen ist es den Gewerkschaften zukünftig verboten, Forderungen zu erheben, die über den Teuerungsindex (Consumer Price Index) hinaus gehen. Die 14 Demokratischen Senatoren, die den Bundesstaat verlassen hatten, um zu verhindern, dass das Gesetz durchgeht, wollen gerichtlich gegen das Gesetz vorgehen. Madison - Berlin: 'Strong unions = a strong country' - Demonstrationen gegen Angriff auf Gewerkschaften

?Am Nachmittag des 12. März 2011 trafen sich rund 50 Aktivistinnen und Aktivisten vor dem Brandenburger Tor in Berlin, um gegen die massive Einschränkung von Gewerkschaftsrechten in den USA zu demonstrieren. Protestiert wurde insbesondere gegen die am Freitag beschlossenen Maßnahmen im US-Bundesstaat Wisconsin. Organisator war die Ortsgruppe Berlin der US-amerikanischen Organisation American Voices Abroad (AVA). Der Anlass zur Gründung dieser Organisation 2003 war das Engagement gegen den Irakkrieg. Bagpipes blaring, hundreds of firefighters walked across the street from the Wisconsin Capitol building, stood outside the Marshall and Ilsley Bank (M&I Bank) and played a few tunes -- loudly. Later, a group of firefighters and consumers stopped back in at the bank to make a few transactions. One by one they closed their accounts and withdrew their life savings, totaling approximately $190,000. After the last customer left, the bank quickly closed its doors, just in case the spontaneous 'Move Your Money' moment caught fire.'

Erst das Erdbeben, dann der Tsunami und letztlich auch noch die Atommafia

Was den Menschen im Nordosten Japans zurzeit widerfährt ist schrecklich und erschütternd. Die Bilder im Fernsehen waren und sind grauenhaft und man mag sich gar nicht vorstellen, wie sehr die betroffenen Menschen unter den Folgen des Erdbebens und des nachfolgenden Tsunamis nun leiden müssen, so sie denn dieses Armageddon überhaupt überlebt haben. Naturkatastrophen solchen Ausmaßes machen betroffen, weil es einem drastisch vor Augen führt, wie wenig man sich gegen bestimmte Launen unserer Natur schützen kann. Was dieser Katastrophe allerdings folgte ist schlichtweg kriminell bzw. mafiös. Und das soll an dieser Stelle nicht verschwiegen werden, es war vorhersagbar und wir alle wussten es bereits aus der vergangenen Erfahrung. Seit Jahrzehnten werden wir von der Atommafia und der von ihnen gekauften Regierungen betrogen und belogen. Sie verschleiern und vertuschen, sie kaufen sich 'Experten', fälschen Gutachten und setzen Unmengen an Menschenleben wissentlich aufs Spiel. Und so ist es nicht verwunderlich, wenn auch diesmal in Japan eine Informationspolitik gefahren wird, die jenseits von allem Erträglichen ist. Die Atommafia bereitet just in diesem Moment, wo ihnen ein Reaktor nach dem anderen um die Ohren fliegt, bereits die Lügen für das 'danach' vor... Wir haben selbstverständlich unsere KollegInnen vom LaborNet Japan angeschrieben und nachgefragt wie es ihnen geht und ob wir ihnen, wie auch immer, helfen können, aber bisher keine Antwort erhalten... Der Schutzmantel der Atom-Mafia

Nicht nur Reaktoren haben Schutzmäntel, die betreibende Atommafia auch: Die Regierung beispielsweise ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil deselben. Die Verlautbarungen der Regierung und der TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) sind kontinuierlich identisch und mit keinem Wort wird darauf eingegangen, dass die japanischen Städte unter anderem deswegen so große Probleme haben, Mindestüberlebensbedingungen zu garantieren, weil sie durch die neoliberale Finanzpolitik ausgeblutet sind. Dass die Armee nun die Kontrolle über den ganzen Osten Japans übernommen hat, hat bisher eindeutig keine Verbesserung gebracht. Die Erklärung der autonomen Eisenbahnergewerkschaft Doro-Chiba nimmt diese Tatsachen ins Visier und ruft dazu auf, selbstorganisiert den Folgen der Katastrophe zu widerstehen. Die sich ständig neu überstürzenden Ereignisse in Japan jagen uns einen Schauer nach dem anderen über den Rücken. Wir sind bestürzt und schockiert, aber wir sind nicht gelähmt, sondern hochmotiviert, gemeinsam mit Euch dafür zu sorgen, dass aus dieser Katastrophe Lehren gezogen werden.

Nein, das ist keine Instrumentalisierung der Opfer, sondern verantwortungsvolles Handeln, damit es nicht irgendwann auch hierzulande kracht. Es ist unendlich bitter für uns AtomkraftgegnerInnen, dass wir mit unseren Warnungen Recht behalten haben. Und wir drücken in diesen Stunden den IngenieurInnen in Japans Atomindustrie alle Daumen. Aber wir wollen gleichzeitig mit aller Kraft dafür sorgen, dass nicht noch mehr Menschen in eine Situation kommen, wie derzeit Millionen in ganz Japan.

Die Bundesregierung versucht öffentlich zu vermitteln, sie lerne aus der Katastrophe. Doch bisher sieht es danach aus, dass sie eigentlich versuchen, ihre Atomkraftwerke mit Versprechen von Sicherheitsüberprüfungen zu retten. Lassen wir sie damit nicht durchkommen!

Das .ausgestrahlt-Team hatte sich eigentlich auf einige freie Tage nach dem Stress der Menschenketten-Mobilisierung gefreut. Daraus wird jetzt nichts. Wir sind gerade an den Grenzen unserer Leistungsfähigkeit. Regeln brechen ? Quellen der Macht ? ein Gespräch mit Frances Fox Piven

In den letzten Jahren sind die Arbeiten von Frances Fox Piven (geb. 1932) und Richard A. Cloward (1926-2001) vor dem Hintergrund der globalen Krise wieder auf mehr Beachtung gestoßen. Insbesondere ihre 1977 veröffentlichte Studie »Poor People?s Movements: Why They Succeed, How They Fail«, die
1986 auf Deutsch unter dem Titel Aufstand der Armen erschien, stößt auf Interesse, weil sie in historisch-analytischer Weise auf zentrale Fragen der Entstehung, des Verlaufs und möglichen Erfolgs sozialer Bewegungen eingeht, die ab 2008 eine neue Aktualität erhalten haben. Im Juni 2009 war Frances Fox Piven in Deutschland und sprach auf der Konferenz »Class in Crisis. Das Prekariat zwischen Krise und Bewegung«, die am 19./20. Juni von der Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung in Berlin durchgeführt wurde, zum Thema »Gewerkschaftskämpfe zwischen Entsolidarisierung und neuer Solidarität«. Am 22. Juni 2009 kam sie auf Einladung der »Stiftung W.« nach Wuppertal, und im Anschluss an ihren Vortrag über »Armutspolitik in Krisenzeiten« hatten wir, Cecil Arndt (CA) und Christian Frings (CF), Gelegenheit ein Interview mit ihr zu führen. In den USA ist Frances Fox Piven zur Zeit einer regelrechten Hetzkampagne durch den rechtsextremen Propagandisten Glenn Beck ausgesetzt, der in den Fox News als Sprachrohr der Tea-Party wirkt. Nachdem Beck und andere Konservative schon seit Jahren in verschwörungstheoretischer Manier die »Piven-Cloward-Strategie« für den ökonomischen Niedergang der USA bis hin zum Wahlsieg Obamas verantwortlich machen, lieferte ein kurzer Artikel von Piven im linken Magazin The Nation vom 22. Dezember 2010 zu den Perspektiven einer Arbeitslosenbewegung in den USA (siehe die Übersetzung unten) den Anlass für Beck und Fox News, die Angriffe auf sie zu intensivieren. Die Folge war eine zunehmende Flut von Morddrohungen, die vor dem Hintergrund des Anschlags auf die Abgeordnete Gabrielle Giffords vom 8. Januar 2011 ein neues Gewicht bekommen. Die Herausgeber von The Nation haben sich in der Ausgabe vom 7. Februar 2011 demonstrativ hinter Frances Fox Piven gestellt und die Drohungen gegen sie öffentlich gemacht. Das passiert heute viel zu wenig. Die Gewerkschaften versuchen nur, Einfluss auf Wahlen zu nehmen und die Unorganisierten zu organisieren ? wobei ich nicht den Eindruck habe, dass sie wirklich sehr hart an dieser Organisierung arbeiten, aber sie sagen, dass sie es tun. Wirklich hart arbeiten sie daran, eine Rolle in den Wahlkampagnen zu spielen. Und das hat nichts damit zu tun, das mögliche Störpotential zu aktivieren, das sich aus den neuen Produktionssystemen ergibt??

Freiheit statt Frontex. Keine Demokratie ohne globale Bewegungsfreiheit

?Mit den beeindruckenden Aufstandsbewegungen in der arabischen Welt und dem Sturz der Despoten in Nordafrika kommen dem vorverlagerten EU-Grenzregime die Wachhunde abhanden. Die Frage einer verschärften Migrationskontrolle durch die europäische Grenzschutzagentur Frontex ist in Politik und Medien in diesen Tagen und Wochen ein großes Thema. Umso dringender erscheint es uns, gegen den fortgesetzen Tod und das Leid an den Außengrenzen die berechtigte Forderung der Flüchtlinge und MigrantInnen nach Bewegungsfreiheit stark zu machen. Der Eckpfeiler der Flüchtlingsabwehr

?Mit aller Macht sperrt sich Berlin gegen die Aufnahme von Flüchtlingen aus dem nordafrikanischen Krisengebiet. Nach ihrer Weigerung, in Südeuropa anlandende Flüchtlinge wenigstens anteilsmäßig aufzunehmen, beteiligt sich die Bundesregierung an Maßnahmen, die darauf abzielen, die aus Libyen entkommenen Menschen in Nordafrika zu halten. Aufrufe, wenigstens von Pogromen bedrohte Schwarze aus Libyen in die EU einreisen zu lassen, verhallen ungehört. Trotz aller Abschottungsbemühungen gerät das deutsch-europäische Flüchtlingsabwehrsystem durch den Kollaps der nordafrikanischen Diktaturen weiter unter Druck. Die katastrophalen Bedingungen, unter denen Migranten in Griechenland vegetieren müssen, hatten seit einiger Zeit Proteste gegen von Berlin gewünschte EU-Normen
('Dublin II') laut werden lassen, die die Flüchtlingsversorgung insbesondere südlichen EU-Staaten übertragen. Nach dem Zusammenbruch der nordafrikanischen Grenzabschottung wehren sich nun auch Länder wie etwa Italien gegen 'Dublin II'.
