''Auf den Punkt ... Im Jahr 2010 arbeiteten 23,1% der Beschäftigten für einen Niedriglohn von unter 9,15 ?.; Bezieht man SchülerInnen, Studierende und RentnerInnen mit ein, waren gut 7,9 Millionen abhängig Beschäftigte von Niedriglöhnen betroffen.; Die Zunahme der Zahl der Niedriglohnbeschäftigten seit 1995 geht fast ausschließlich auf Westdeutschland zurück.; Die Durchschnittslöhne im Niedriglohnsektor lagen im Jahr 2010 mit 6,68 ? in West- und 6,52 ? pro Stunde in Ostdeutschland weit unter der Niedriglohnschwelle.; Gut 4,1 Millionen Beschäftigte (12%) verdienen weniger als 7 ? brutto pro Stunde und davon 1,4 Millionen sogar weniger als 5 ?. Ostdeutsche, Frauen und MinijobberInnen sind von solchen Niedrigstlöhnen überproportional betroffen.; Bei Einführung eines gesetzliches Mindestlohnes von 8,50 ? hätte jede(r) fünfte Beschäftigte Anspruch auf eine Lohnerhöhung (gut 25% der Frauen und knapp 15% der Männer).''

Niemand würde eine Bezahlung unterhalb des Existenzminimums akzeptieren, wenn nicht das Amt mit Hartz-Sanktionen drohte. Es ist ein künstlich geschaffenes Billigproletariat ohne Rechte, das für uns Arbeit erledigt, die uns nichts wert ist. Ist Sicherheit wichtig? Dann bezahlt den Wachmann anständig. Ist es essentiell, nachts um eins die kaputten Schuhe zu reklamieren? Dann gebt dem Mann an der Beschwerde-Hotline gescheites Geld. Was ist was wert? Das ist die fundamentale Frage, die auch ein Mindestlohn nicht lösen wird. Auch wenn der den ärmsten der Niedriglöhner zunächst einmal weiter hilft.''
