Dancing on the Supercommittee s Grave, Singing Hallelujah

Robert Naiman, Truthout: *The spectacle of Democrats and Republicans arguing about who is to 'blame' for the 'failure' of the 'supercommittee' is certainly tempting for many partisans, but any progressives who participate in the spectacle risk attacking their own interests to the degree that they promote the implicit assumption that the public interest would have been better served if the supercommittee had reached a deal.'

Spending tales

Timothy J. Taylor Authority!
by Timothy J Taylor

12/04/11

Few Americans were surprised when the so-called congressional 'Super-Committee' failed to come up with a recommendation to cut $1.2 trillion in government spending over the next ten years. The national debt right now today exceeds $15 trillion yet Congress can t even agree to cut $1.2 trillion in ten long years. The United States government is addicted to spending like a heroin addict is addicted to smack...

Castor stoppen, Energiewende sozial gestalten

25. November 2011 Caren Lay

Stay Away From Chemotherapy and Radiation

by Dr. James Howenstine

To the person who inquires how can an essentially worthless therapy continue to be used as the answer is simple. It is all about money. Chemotherapy drugs bring in more than a trillion dollars annually to the pharmaceutical industry. Oncologists frequently make (actually the number can now be over $50,000 per injection) $1000 from every injection administered to a patient. There are 40 National Cancer Institute Centers scattered across the USA........

Giving Thanks for the Occupation, Election, Demonstrations

Leo Gerard, Campaign For America s Future: 'This week s holiday mandates giving thanks. For many Americans, that is complicated by the harsh years since 2008. There s the bitterness of lost jobs, foreclosed homes and diminished opportunity. There s the resentment over bailing out Wall Street, then watching banksters grant themselves sensational bonuses while denying Main Street loans to save businesses. There s the fear generated by county club conservatives demanding draconian cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid?. The past two months, though, produced glimmers of hope - the occupation, the election and the mid-November demonstrations.'

Giving Thanks to Our Public Servants

William J. Astore, Truthout: 'Having served in the military for twenty years and having police officers and other civil servants in my family and among my closest friends, I d like to give thanks to our public servants on this Thanksgiving day. They sacrifice for us; sometimes they even put their lives on the line for us; and despite their flaws they generally uphold high standards?. That s precisely why it s a sad and tragic day for our country when armed citizen-lawmen are deployed by the powerful to disrupt and disperse the powerless, whether in Zuccotti Park or on the campuses of our colleges and universities.'

From Alexandria to Zuccotti Park: Destroying books for 2000 years

Our Future Blog

The Book Killers have always been with us. Before recorded history they were with us, murdering the scholars and storytellers and mystics of every tribe they ever conquered. They were there when Great Library burned in Alexandria 2,000 years ago. They destroyed the library known as the House of Wisdom when the Mongol Empire invaded Baghdad in 1258. ... In 2003 the United States invaded Iraq .... The National Library burned, and the flames lit the skies for miles around...

New Documentary Tracks Cultural Genocide of American Indians

Rose Aguilar, Truthout: 'From 1879 until the 1960s, more than 100,000 American Indian children were forced to attend boarding schools. Children were forcibly removed or kidnapped from their homes and taken to the schools. Families risked imprisonment if they stood in the way or attempted to take their children back?. A new documentary, 'The Thick Dark Fog,' shines a light on the traumatic boarding school experience through the telling of personal stories. The film focuses on Walter Littlemoon, a Lakota who was forced to attend a federal government boarding school on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota in the 1950s. Littlemoon says his culture, language and spirituality were brutally suppressed.'

The Pentagon Flunks Another Audit

Dina Rasor, Truthout: 'The military-industrial complex is in high alert. They can t really believe that the Obama administration will keep its word and veto any Congressional action that would try and get the Pentagon out from the sequestration problem of cutting over a half a trillion from the Department of Defense (DoD) budget over the next ten years. If they are confident it won t happen, they are doing a good job of panicking over the cuts for public consumption and to protect their turf.'
