I S. 453). Weiter lesen:

Transnational Peoples Movements Form to Respond to Transnational Injustice

Matthew Cappiello and Kevin Zeese, Truthout: 'Transnational citizens' movements are developing to respond to transnational political and economic elites. Some of the most famous American voices for peace and justice have signed a solidarity statement with top Egyptian activists, in order to affirm common goals and principles required to bring real change on both sides of the globe.'

The Ideal Capital Gains Tax Reform

Gerald E. Scorse, Truthout: 'Advocates of tax breaks on capital gains claim that investments in the stock market grow jobs and grow the economy. For all but a trace amount of the billions of shares that change hands every day, that s patently untrue. Almost none of the money that flows through Wall Street goes to companies or grows jobs; it simply grows portfolios. Except for the exceptions. Small companies with big dreams use initial public offerings (IPOs) to help make those dreams take root and flourish.'

#OccupyWallStreet spreads: around 70 protests planned in the following weeks #occupytogether

Five Ways Occupy Wall Street Has Succeeded

Mark Engler, YES! Magazine: 'Occupy Wall Street protests are now well into their second week, and they are increasingly capturing the public spotlight. This is because, whatever limitations their occupation has, the protesters have done many things right.... OccupyWallStreet has accomplished a great deal in the past week and a half, with virtually no resources. The following are some of the things the participants have done that allowed what might have been a negligible and insignificant protest to achieve a remarkable level of success.'

U.S. Now Controls More than Half of World Arms Sales

The United States overwhelmingly dominates arms sales to the Near East, with the bulk of sales in the last four years going to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Iraq.

Nato Interference in internal affairs must not be covered by concept of protecting civilians: Russian Foreign Ministry

'We cannot side-step the polemics [at the 66th session of the UN general Assembly] on the concept of responsibility for the protection [of civilians], which some speakers cited while justifying the use of force in internal conflicts, including in Libya,' he said at a press briefing in Moscow on Friday.

Obama Can Kill Anyone He Wants To

By Robert Dreyfuss

American citizens are supposed to have legal and civil rights that protect them from political or prosecutorial assassinations, even if they are bad guys. Apparently, no longer.

Ron Paul Condemns Killing of 'al Qaeda s' Awlaki

The law on the use of lethal force by executive order is specific. This assassination broke it - that creates a terrifying precedent.

ACLU Comment on New York Times Article on Killing of Anwar Al-Aulaqi

This is the latest in a series of one-sided, selective disclosures that prevent meaningful public debate and legal or even political accountability for the government s killing program, including its use against citizens.

Weighing the Cost, Building Resistance

Nancy Murray and Kade Crockford, Truthout and ACLU Massachusetts: 'What does it mean to 'feel American' these days? After a decade of the relentless drumbeat warning us to be alert to the terrorist threat, the refrain that this is 'the land of the free, home of the brave' is ringing increasingly hollow.... Have we entirely lost sight of the notion that 'national security' should include securing those attributes that we have long claimed define us as a people, including the fundamental rights and protections of our constitutional system?'

Judging a Long, Deadly Reach

Scott Shane, The New York Times News Service: 'The killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen struck on Friday by a missile fired from a drone aircraft operated by his own government, instantly reignited a difficult debate over terrorism, civil liberties and the law.... A range of civil libertarians ... questioned how the government could take an American citizen s life based on secret intelligence and without a trial.... killing him amounted to summary execution without the due process of law guaranteed by the Constitution.'

The Day America Died

Assassins of liberty
by Justin Raimondo

The assassination of Anwar al-Awlaki sets an important precedent, one that will go down in our history as a shameful moment, a turning point, when the policy of endless war empowered the President to kill his own countrymen without benefit of trial. Any American, whose 'preaching' purportedly 'inspires' a terrorist act is now fair game for our Praetorians...

Finding wisdom in the midst of tragedy

Independent Institute
by Elizabeth Bernard Higgs

The way to peace will never be through killing. The way to peace is mercy. The way to peace is the understanding that forgiving the sins of those who sin against you is a requirement for a civilized and peaceful world. If we, as a society, move too far away from this understanding, we will inevitably fall into barbarism. Is it already too late?

The perils of a killer president

Ilana Mercer Barely A Blog
by Ilana Mercer

Anwar al-Awlaki was terminated today in Yemen (in violation of that country s sovereignty). According to the say-so of U.S. officials, this American-born cleric is said to have 'played a 'significant operational role' in plotting and inspiring attacks on the United States.' Good enough evidence in the court of the imperial presidency and his adherents and architects (like Dick Cheney)...

Obama searches for monsters, Ron Paul rejects assassinating Americans

The Nation
by John Nichols

President Obama s authorization of the assassination of an American citizen, New Mexico-born Anwar al-Awlaki - in a drone attack that also killed American citizen Samir Khan, who was raised in New York City and North Carolina - drew high praise from execution-enthusiast Rick Perry, who congratulated Obama by name for 'getting another key terrorist.' But the bipartisan disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law stopped when Texas Congressman Ron Paul was asked about the air strike that on Friday killed the two Americans in Yemen...

Watchdog: Regulators Bowed to Banks on Bailout

Federal regulators bowed to pressure from big banks seeking a quick exit from the financial bailout program and did not uniformly apply the government s own conditions set for repaying the taxpayer funds, a new watchdog report says.

Banks Successfully Lobbied for Weaker Bailout Repayment Rules so They Could Pay Bonuses

Pat Garofalo, ThinkProgress: 'As a new report from the Special Inspector General for TARP shows, even these restrictions were too much for some of the nation's biggest banks - including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and PNC - who lobbied for easier payback requirements so that they could be freed from restrictions on paying bonuses.'

Sheared by the Shorts: How Short Sellers Fleece Investors

Ellen Brown, Truthout: 'Why did gold and silver stocks just get hammered, at a time when commodities are considered a safe haven against widespread global uncertainty? The answer, according to Bill Murphy s newsletter, is that the sector has been the target of massive short selling.... The stock market has been plagued by these speculative attacks ever since the four-year industry-wide bear raid called the Great Depression, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average was reduced to 10 percent of its former value.'
