Zaid Jilani, ThinkProgress: 'Last night, former Bush official Karl Rove appeared at Johns Hopkins University to speak as a part of the annual Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium. Rove soon discovered that he was not going to deliver his right-wing rhetoric unopposed, as a cry of 'Mic Check!' rang out among the audience. 'Karl Rove is the architect of Occupy Iraq, the architect of Occupy Afghanistan!' yelled the demonstrators. Occupy Baltimore had infiltrated the crowd and began chanting against Rove. 'Who gave you the right to occupy America?'
asked Rove to the protesters, apparently unaware of the Bill of Rights.'

How Wealthy Companies Like Verizon Avoid Taxes

Dave Johnson, Campaign for America's Future: 'Earlier this month, the organization Citizens for Tax Justice joined with the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy to release a report, 'Corporate Taxpayers and Corporate Tax Dodgers, 2008-2010.' The report looked at 280 corporations, finding that 78 did not pay federal taxes in at least one of the past three years and 30 averaged a less-than-zero tax bill in the last three years. Yes, less-than-zero, meaning they got money from the government instead of paying taxes to the government.'

Thousands Protest in Chicago as Emanuel s 'Devastating' Budget Is Approved

Yana Kunichoff, Truthout: 'Thousands of protesters in Chicago blocked downtown traffic Thursday as part of the National Day of Action and to protest the city council s unanimous approval of Rahm Emanuel s budget cuts. The march included an action blocking a major bridge over the Chicago River during rush hour, ending in 46 tickets for 'Pedestrian Failure to Exercise Due Care,' and a long march that at one point blocked traffic on the major Lake Shore Drive thoroughfare.'
