Tatenlosigkeit der Bundesregierung treibt Strompreise noch höher

''Es gibt viele Möglichkeiten, die Strompreis-Explosion zu verhindern, ohne die Zukunft der erneuerbaren Energien abzuwürgen. Die Bundesregierung nutzt keine davon, während die Menschen nicht mehr wissen, wie sie ihren Strom noch bezahlen sollen'', erklärt die stellvertretende Parteivorsitzende Caren Lay (MdB), Energieexpertin im Spitzenteam der LINKEN zur Bundestagswahl, anlässlich des vom Bundesumweltministerium erwarteten Anstiegs der EEG-Umlage auf 7 Cent pro Kilowattstunde im Jahr 2014.

Da zwischen Bund und Ländern keine Einigung im Bezug auf das Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz (EEG) erzielt werden konnte, muss die Bundesregierung eine der vielen anderen Möglichkeiten nutzen, um die Strompreise schnell zu senken. Schließlich ist der Anteil der Steuern und Abgaben am Strompreis mit 28 Prozent deutlich höher als der Anteil der EEG-Umlage.

Eine Senkung der Strompreise wäre umgehend möglich durch die Abschaffung der ungerechtfertigten Industrierabatte, für die Bundesregierung den Verbraucherinnen und Verbraucher derzeit 16 Milliarden im Jahr aufbürdet. Auch die Stromsteuer muss sofort gesenkt werden. Dieser Vorschlag der LINKEN wird inzwischen auch von SPD, CDU und FDP unterstützt. Zudem sollte die Bundesregierung lieber die Senkung der Mehrwertsteuer auf Energie in Erwägung ziehen, statt mit den steigenden Strompreisen auch noch selbst Kasse zu machen.

Die Strompreise haben sich innerhalb von 12 Jahren verdoppelt. Die nächsten Preiserhöhungen zeichnen sich ab. Mit dem Scheitern der Bund-Länder-Gespräche zu einer Strompreisbremse ist wieder eine Chance verpasst worden, die Strompreis-Explosion einzudämmen. Die Bundesregierung muss die Verbraucherinnen und Verbraucher endlich entlasten.

In Syria, unlearned lessons from Libya

While media attention has turned to fresher news, the conflict in Syria rages on and the West becomes ever more deeply embroiled. The United States is training Syrian insurgents in neighboring Jordan, increasing deliveries of 'non-lethal' military equipment, and helping coordinate the military aid flowing to the Free Syrian Army from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Meanwhile, the British and French are poised to send in arms. The U.S. appears to be following the same philosophy in Syria that it did in Libya in 2011, one laid bare by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton s comment after receiving the news that Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi had been killed: 'We came, we saw, he died.' In other words, the U.S. believed that the best way of protecting Libyan civilians and promoting a democratic transition was to help armed insurgents overthrow the regime...

Die Vorsitzende der LINKEN, Katja Kipping, erklärt nach dem Bekanntwerden des deutlichen Anstiegs von Datenabfrage für die Konten von Hartz IV-Antragstellern:

Die Zahlen sprechen eine klare Sprache. Immer weniger Menschen beantragen Hartz IV, die Zahl der Kontenabfragen explodiert. Das ist ein Beleg für staatliche Schnüffelwut gegen Menschen in Armut. Wer Sozialleistungen beantragt, ist Freiwild für staatliche Schnüffler. Wer den Staat um Millionen betrügt, darf mit Diskretion, Amnestie und Nachsicht rechnen. Da stimmen die Verhältnisse schon längst nicht mehr. Wir wollen erstens Aufklärung darüber, wie oft ohne konkreten Verdacht Konten von Sozialleistungsbeziehenden ausspioniert wurden und zweitens ein Ende der Schnüffeleien und Sanktionen im Hartz IV-System.
