'(?) Der Oakland-Streik war kein offizieller, von den Gewerkschaften oder der Arbeiterbewegung ausgerufener Generalstreik. Er wurde von der Vollversammlung der Occupy Oakland-Bewegung ausgerufen. Die Gewerkschaften und die örtliche Vertretung des Gewerkschaftsdachverbands reagierten, indem sie Unterstützung verschiedenster Art zeigten, konnten ihre Mitglieder jedoch nicht offiziell zum Streik aufrufen - das wäre ein Verstoß gegen ihre hart erstrittenen Tarifverträge gewesen. Die Gewerkschaften ermutigten ihre Mitglieder, sich zu beteiligen, und leitende Gewerkschaftsfunktionäre sponserten eine Grillparty für die Protestierenden. Es gab auch eine von den Gewerkschaftsführungen verfasste Erklärung zur Unterstützung des Occupy-Camps und zur Solidarität mit den »99 Prozent«. Viele ArbeiterInnen meldeten sich krank oder nahmen Urlaub, um daran teilzunehmen. Senate Amendment Calls for a Return to Bush-Era Torture

Jeffrey Kaye, Truthout: 'An amendment by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-New Hampshire) to the current Defense Authorization Bill (SA 1068) now before Congress would roll back the 2009 Obama executive order against torture by re-establishing a secret 'classified' set of interrogation techniques and then attaching them to the current 'Army Field Manual' on human intelligence collection. But whether the amendment passes or not, the existence of certain interrogation techniques as used currently by the US military and intelligence services in the 'Manual' do not comply with international norms, such as the Geneva Conventions.'
