Opponents to Fracking Disclosure Take Big Money From Industry

Abrahm Lustgarten, ProPublica: "In the context of today?s roiling political and energy debates, it?s not at all clear who will win. But if money is an indicator, the anti-regulatory group has the upper hand.... According to data from Open Secrets, the 32 [congress] members against disclosure received $1,742,572. The average contribution from the oil and gas sector to individuals from that group was $54,455. Oklahoma Democrat Dan Boren, who co-chairs the caucus, personally received more than $202,000, including almost $15,000 from Chesapeake Energy, one of the largest natural gas producers in the United States."

Decorated Disabled Veteran Faces Deportation to Pakistan

K.T. Cox, Truthout: "Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry, a decorated disabled American veteran, is the victim of a witch hunt that has been ongoing since the 9/11 attacks. Chaudhry is being deported to Pakistan, where he will 'inevitably be murdered by the Taliban for his service in the US Army,' says Seth Manzel, executive director of G.I. Voice. Chaudhry came to the US legally over 13 years ago and has been married to a native-born citizen for nearly ten years. The suit Chaudhry and his wife filed against the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in US district court to press for his citizenship was dismissed on October 26, 2010, on summary judgement, without any trial or opportunity to further present their circumstances."

Corruption and Class Struggle: What It's Really Like to Live in Arizona

Joel Olson, New Clear Vision: "With the passage of the notorious anti-immigrant bill SB 1070 last spring, the outlawing of ethnic studies as of January 1st, the gutting of the school and university systems, the collapsed housing market, the high unemployment rates, and now the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, you might be wondering what it's like to actually live in Arizona right about now. In short: it ain't easy. But it helps to put Giffords's shooting in historical perspective, which is defined by two things in Arizona: corruption and class struggle. And ironically, this perspective gives me hope about the radically democratic future of my home state."

Bradley Manning and the Rule of Law

Kevin Zeese, Truthout: "The case of Pvt. Bradley Manning raises legal issues about his pre-trial detention, freedom of speech and the press, as well as proving his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Putting aside Manning's guilt or innocence, if Manning saw the Afghan and Iraq war diaries as well as the diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks, what should he have done? And what should be the proper response of government to their publication?"

Bradley Manning and GI Resistance to US War Crimes

Angola 3 News interviews Dahr Jamail on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the media's coverage of WikiLeaks, the actions of Bradley Manning and the military's response to soldier resistance. Jamail says, "The US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq could not have more clearly violated international law. Even the former secretary general of the United Nations (UN), Kofi Annan, said in September 2004 that the Iraq war was illegal and breached the UN Charter. An illegal war is thus the mother of all war crimes, for from that stems all the rest.... What Manning did by leaking this critical information has been to uphold his oath as a soldier in the most patriotic way."

Endless Guantanamo

It's easy to forget just how bipartisan an issue closing Gitmo once was. Sure, Obama supported closure, but so did Sen. John McCain and America's most recognizable military leader, Gen. David Petraeus. In 2006, President George W. Bush, reeling from his mishandling of two wars and public and international outcry over his national-security policies, said he thought the prison should be closed. He went as far as to say that some of the 'cold-blooded killers' held there needed to be 'tried in U.S. courts'...

One Year After Haiti Earthquake, Corporations Profit While People Suffer

Jordan Flaherty, Truthout: "One year after an earthquake devastated Haiti, much of the promised relief and reconstruction aid has not reached those most in need. In fact, the nation's tragedy has served as an opportunity to further enrich corporate interests. The details of a recent lawsuit, as reported by Business Week, highlights the ways in which contractors - including some of the same players who profited from Hurricane Katrina-related reconstruction - have continued to use their political connections to gain profits from others' suffering, receiving contacts worth tens of millions of dollars while the Haitian people receive pennies, at best."

Wikileaks: Making things harder for Hillary

When governments can?t trust each other to keep dirty secrets, they are likely to adjust their behavior. If they hesitate to conspire, then they will be less able to work together to impose the wills of political elites. If they restrict their own lines of communication, then they will be less effective at doing dirty deeds. If they restructure for efficiency, which will be extremely difficult for institutions laden with entrenched bureaucracy and cultures of privilege and rank, then they will probably be less of a burden on citizens and less profitable for political cronies...

Afghanistan: Killing Peace

Young Afghans Work for Peace, Starting With Their Own Hearts

Mike Ferner, Truthout: "Hakim relocated to Bamiyan, Afghanistan, to begin his new work. At first the native Singaporean, a 1993 medical school graduate, served people as a doctor, but he quickly saw that role as 'insufficient' when an Afghan youth told him that, 'Without peace, it is impossible to live.' Searching for a way to realize his dream for peace, the 41-year-old began a three-month peace workshop at Bamiyan University. The course began with about 40 college students, who quickly concluded with their peers and others in their community that, 'Peace is not possible.' Even so, 16 students agreed to stay together for one semester and continue the project."

Slowly, but surely, the leakage of the U. S. State Department cables continues. Media interest in the United States has died down. One reason for this is that the prosecution of Wikileaks leader Julian Assange became the story, and that spiked interest in the cables themselves. The New York Times has since reported on Assange, in the manner of a celebrity scandal, and failed to take any further interest in the cables. Crises in the cables are now academic; the scandals are on the front page. It tells us something about the state of journalism that this is so: few journalists at the major newspapers continue to scour the cables...

The reflexive call for fewer liberties

What Galston is doing here is what the American political class reflexively does in the wake of every tragedy: it immediately seeks to exploit the resulting trauma and emotion to justify all-new restrictions on basic liberties (such as the right not to be locked away against one's will in the absence of a crime or a serious threat to others) and all-new government powers. Every traumatic event -- in the immediate, emotionally consuming aftermath -- leads to these sorts of knee-jerk responses...

The politics of psychosis: 'I know you are but what am I?'

As Democrats and Republicans happily continue to play their game of partisan political ping-pong with the Tucson massacre, perhaps the most unwittingly ironic assertion is that which claims the assassin's act has little or nothing to do with mainstream politics because the assassin himself is clearly a deranged and mentally disturbed individual. It is by means of this precise argument that the deranged and disturbed proponents of the Democratic and Republican parties seek to wash their hands of the bloody affair after first attempting to wipe them clean with the other side's dirty laundry...

So the Republicans took control of Congress. New House Speaker John Boehner declared that 'our spending has caught up with us ... No longer can we kick the can down the road.' He's right about that. Thanks to runaway spending during the last two administrations, the debt our government owes investors now stands at 62% of GDP. But is there any reason to believe that Republicans will reverse the trend? Will this group be more responsible that the previous bunch? I hope so. But I?m skeptical...

Sarah Palin Brands Media's Attacks Over Arizona Shooting as 'Blood Libel'

Sarah speaks, again

Truth to Power
by James Mann

01/12/11

Sarah Palin has yet again released a statement on the Arizona shootings, this time in hopes of deflecting any blame from herself, and to again question the allegiance to the state of anyone who dares to disagree with her or tie her insipid, anti-American views to the actions of a madman. But she needn?t have bothered, because she made her most honest statement when she removed within hours the target map from her website. That?s all you need to know about Sarah Palin...

The Tragic State of the Gulf of Mexico: Sampling Reveals Oil and Dispersants on Mississippi Coast

Dahr Jamail and Erika Blumenfeld, Truthout: "In October 2010, Truthout tested several water and soil samples from the Gulf of Mexico for chemicals in BP's crude oil and toxic dispersants. One sample of dead marine life was also tested. Truthout also obtained and had analyzed a sample of pure Corexit 9500, one of the toxic dispersants used to sink the crude oil. The dispersants BP has used in the Gulf of Mexico are banned in at least 19 other countries. BP has used at least 1.9 million gallons of the dispersants in the Gulf of Mexico to sink their 4.9 million barrels of crude oil. The samples were tested in a private lab via gas chromatography by an analyst who requested anonymity."

The Tea Party, foreign policy, and the politics of real change

Antiwar.com
by Justin Raimondo

01/12/11

I?ve spent more than a few columns predicting that the so-called tea partiers -- the grassroots populist movement that has our liberal elites in a frothy-mouthed lather -- will be logically led to call for major cuts in military spending -- and, by the sheer logic of their anti-spending, 'anti-government' position, eventually come to challenge our foreign policy of global intervention. The other day, as I listened to a fascinating panel discussion on Warren Olney?s KCRW radio show To the Point on defense spending and deficit reduction, I had the distinct pleasure of hearing my prediction come true -- a lot sooner, I have to admit, than I ever imagined...

Small towns besieged by foreclosures

Jennifer and Brian Law are caught up in a new wave of suburban and rural home foreclosures, far from the low-income city neighborhoods where the crisis began. ... Today, the Laws face foreclosure, part of a swelling group of rural and suburban homeowners who are tipping the scales in Massachusetts. ... The shift of foreclosures from cities to outlying areas indicates that the sluggish economy and a lingering high unemployment rate, not subprime loans and predatory lending, have become the main reasons people lose their homes...

Like the money it prints, the profits reported by the Federal Reserve aren?t what they seem, representing returns on precarious investments that no sane actor would undertake. Those putrid investments include not only the storied mortgage-backed securities that became the focus of the financial debacle, but Treasury bonds that sponsor the federal government?s debt. Even while these holdings generate income now, their purchase with imaginary money that was 'printed' electronically means that financially-accountable, free people never got the chance to discover their clearing price...

Today?s most dangerous government sponsored enterprises are the largest six bank holding companies: JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley. They are undoubtedly too big to fail .... The market knows this and, as a result, these large institutions can borrow more cheaply than their smaller competitors. What U.S. "Justice" Signifies Around The World

We have the spectacle of Julian Assange's lawyers citing the Obama administration's policies of rendition and indefinite detention at Guantanamo as a reason why human rights treaties bar his extradition to any country (such as Sweden) which might transfer him to American custody.

WikiLeaks Founder Said to Fear 'Illegal Rendition' to U.S.

Lawyers acting for Julian Assange, the founder of the WikiLeaks antisecrecy group, said on Tuesday they would argue against a demand for his extradition to Sweden on the grounds that he might subsequently face "illegal rendition" to the United States, risking imprisonment at Guantánamo Bay, or even the death penalty.

Nine Years Later: The Political Prisoners of Guantanamo

Andy Worthington, Truthout: "Political prisoners? Surely, that can't be right, can it? Surely, it's only dictatorships in far-flung corners of the world who hold political prisoners, and not the United States of America? Sadly, no. As the 'War on Terror' prison established by President Bush begins its tenth year of operations, and as it begins to be forgotten that President Obama swept into office issuing an executive order promising to close the prison within a year, but failed spectacularly to do so, the bleak truth is that, for a majority of the 173 men held at Guantanamo, their chances of being released, or of receiving anything resembling justice, have receded to such an extent in the last two years that most face indefinite detention without charge or trial and may still be in Guantanamo a year from now, two years from now, or even five, ten or twenty years from now."

The Philosophies That Put People Behind Bars

Mike Konczal, new deal 2.0: "Following Lynn Parramore's piece on solitary confinement, it's important to note that criminal sentencing reform will be on the table in 2011. Collapsing state budgets and ever-increasing prison populations (and the costs associated with them) will force the issue. Republican Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has recently endorsed a plan to help reduce the prison population. As this issue unfolds, it is important to understand how we got here in the first place. First, having so much of our population behind bars is a new phenomenon, going back to 1980."

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 30/31st, 2010 = WEATHER RADAR SHOWED SOMETHING UNUSUAL AROUND THE EXACT TIME OF MASS BIRD DIE-OFFS: A CRACK IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE GEO-MAGNETIC FIELD WHICH IS NOW ROTATING or "MOVING" GLOBALLY!

I am an Aerospace Electro/Mechanical engineer and live in Hot Springs Arkansas. I would like to give you some information I have been following sense early December 2010.

When I saw a news flash on yahoo about a crack in the northern geomagnetic field:

http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/...e_cluster.html

At first, I was concerned so I started tracking Spaceweather.com to see if there were any increases in solar activity, but was surprised that the Sun was calm, however I check this site daily up to today and only found slight elevations in the Sun's activity which also puzzled me.

So, I starter looking at local anomalies that could account for such a reaction to the birds being affected and I found that different regions have higher levels of magnet fields and it appears that the LITTLE ROCK and BEEBE areas fall in one area that has a positive charge NANOTESLA FIELD at 1,000 feet elevation colored in red which would attach the negative charged solar winds electrons and ions.

http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/352/arkla.html

Other State Maps

http://crustal.usgs.gov/projects/nam...e_listing.html

CONCLUSION:

The CRACK IS ROTATING as seen in Auroral Activity Extrapolated from NOAA observations on the Sun side of the earth where high energy particle enter the atmosphere and spread around to the dark side of earth. They are then distributed across the hemisphere and then out to space where they create a snapping of magnetic field lines which can induce brief high current and lightning.

And as I recall, we had a coronal hole and coronal ejection earth bound on the December 30/31 2010.

Sense the timing of the fire works may have masked the lightning and thunder, it is very possible that this event and other similar die offs have been caused by the "Crack in the Geo Magnetic Shield" and LOCALIZED in areas of high absorption on Earth.

For the past ten years, the issue of aerosol spraying has remained in the spotlight, mostly on the Internet. Here and there one sees a bit of coverage on a local news channel, but for the most part, it has not risen to the level of concern that it should with the American people. Those beautiful blue skies that disappear with the constant criss crossing of white gunk is no accident. It's not a conspiracy theory. It's real and......
