As Long As The Public is Under Control, Everything is Fine

By Kristian Smith

"The guiding principle (for American government) is that as long as the public is under control, everything is fine," he said. "(The traditional argument is) the powerful should gain ends by any possible means. As long as the public is kept under control, public will doesn't matter."

The Enumerated Rights Are Hanging By A Thread

By Paul Craig Roberts

While people in Tunisia and Egypt have taken to the streets in attempts to gain their liberty, Americans are losing their liberty with minimal protest.

AG says state has until May to release Palin emails

MSNBC

01/27/11

The state of Alaska has until May 31 to release about 25,000 pages of e-mails from former Gov. Sarah Palin and senior members of her administration, the state attorney general declared Wednesday. As we reported last month, by May the delays in dealing with public records from the Palin administration will have stretched out longer than the Palin administration itself. She was governor for 966 days. By May 31, the request from msnbc.com for the official records will be 986 days old. State regulations usually require records to be made available within 10 days, but state officials said they were overwhelmed by the volume of the e-mails...

Bills Denying Birthright Citizenship to be Introduced in Arizona

Fox News

01/26/11

Arizona is expected to set off another seismic immigration wave on Thursday, when both chambers of its legislature expect to hear the introduction of bills denying citizenship to U.S.-born babies of undocumented immigrants. Republican State Sen. Ron Gould said he and Republican State Rep. John Kavanagh agreed on a day for each to introduce the legislation, but Gould said that timetables for consideration of the bills by the separate chambers will diverge at that point.

USA Today

01/27/11

Dozens of Guantanamo inmates are protesting their imprisonment with a sit-in and signs to mark the ninth anniversary of the prison camp's opening. Obama Inc.: The state of the union is still a state of war

Jim Hightower: "Exciting news, folks. Obama and team say they're recalibrating, recasting, retooling and rebranding his presidency! And they've come up with a dandy new slogan to sum it all up and get America moving again. Ready? 'Win the future.' Takes your breath away, doesn't it? If you're old enough to remember Gerald Ford's hapless presidency, Obama's fabulous new slogan might have a familiar ring to it."

The revolutionary wave

Antiwar.com Antiwar.com
by Justin Raimondo

01/28/11

The revolutionary wave now sweeping the world will not exempt America, in spite of the myth of 'American exceptionalism.' We cannot and will not be excepted from the iron laws of economics, which mandate that you can?t consume more than you produce -- no matter how many Federal Reserve notes (otherwise known as 'money') you print. The implications for US foreign policy are radical, and unsettling...

For the budget crisis, a fake solution

Reason Reason
by Steve Chapman

01/27/11

The latest Obama plan would cut projected outlays by an estimated $400 billion in the next decade, and the Republican alternative would cut spending by $2.5 trillion. It's a measure of our predicament that these enormous sums wouldn't make a lot of difference, even if they were achieved. They're the equivalent of trying to empty a swimming pool with a tablespoon...

Freedom is not compatible with government?s initiation of force against innocent people

Liberty & Power
by Robert Higgs

01/26/11

[A] presumption in favor of freedom rules out virtually everything that modern governments do, certainly nearly everything they do in interfering in economic affairs. Redistribution of income, for example, requires that the government rob Peter in order to benefit Paul (and its own functionaries, who serve as middlemen in this transfer). This action is not freedom; it is a crime against Peter, a raw violation of his right to his own legitimate property...

Modern-day slaves' story repeats daily in plain sight

They worked at posh country clubs across South Florida, then returned to deceptively quiet houses in Boca Raton where they were captives -- and in the most dreadful cases, fed rotten chicken and vegetables, forced to drink muriatic acid and repeatedly denied medical help.
