Chris Hedges, Truthdig: 'Tens of thousands of Americans are being held in super-maximum-security prisons where they are deprived of contact and psychologically destroyed. Undocumented workers are rounded up and vanish from their families for weeks or months. Allison Kilkenny, Truthout: 'Thanks to the work from the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) and investigative journalists like Beau Hodai, we now know that ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council), a front group for major corporations, the Koch brothers and right-wing lobbying groups, actively disseminated model bills promoting its agenda to state leaders. ALEC creates plausible deniability for state legislators by claiming it's not lobbying, of course, but merely making friendly suggestions and, in turn, the legislators ultimately reap the rewards of being extra nice to ALECs corporate clients.'

When I saw that the House passed a $649 billion Defense spending bill, I became EVEN MORE convinced that Congress should REFUSE to raise the debt ceiling. This bill costs some $6,000 per family, and it doesn t even include all Defense-related funding. Estimates have the entire so-called 'national security' spending at $1-1.2 trillion, which ups the 'per family' cost to $10-12 thousand dollars!

As PolitiFact has noted, Obama has made false claims about whether Obamacare raises taxes (it does, on investment income, medical devices, cosmetic surgery, etc.) and about court rulings dealing with the health care law. Obama made other false claims about the new health care law, like whether you can keep your health insurance plan if you like it; whether people will be compelled to buy coverage under the new health care law; and whether some employee benefits will be taxed due to the new law...
