''Die USA tun es wieder. 2003 wurde der Irak-Krieg mit einer Biowaffenlüge begonnen. Jetzt konstruiert Obama sich seinen Kriegsgrund für Syrien. Die Beweislage ist ganz, ganz dünn. Vor allem gibt es keinen Beweis dafür, dass ein möglicher Einsatz von Chemiewaffen von Assads Seite durchgeführt wurde'', kommentiert Jan van Aken, stellvertretender Vorsitzender der LINKEN und außenpolitischer Sprecher der Linksfraktion im Bundestag die jüngsten Aussagen der US-Regierung, dass Assad Chemiewaffen in Syrien eingesetzt habe.

Van Aken weiter: ''Selbst wenn tatsächlich Giftgas in Syrien eingesetzt wurde, bleibt völlig offen, wer es eingesetzt hat. Die Behauptung, nur Assad kontrolliere diese Waffen, ist sehr weit hergeholt. Seit der Warnung Obamas von der ''roten Linie'' müssen wir doch damit rechnen, dass Rebellen alles daran setzen, einen Chemiewaffenangriff vorzutäuschen oder gar selbst auszulösen, um damit einen Kriegseintritt der USA zu provozieren. Deshalb ist es richtig, dass die Syrien-Kommission der UNO immer darauf hinweist, dass es nicht möglich sei, die Täter festzustellen. Es spricht einiges dagegen, dass die Chemiewaffen, so sie denn tatsächlich zum Einsatz gekommen sind, von Assads Regierungstruppen eingesetzt wurden. Militärisch macht der Einsatz von kleinsten Mengen Giftgas punktuell an einem Ort überhaupt gar keinen Sinn. Einzelne Giftgranaten bringen taktisch in einem Gefecht kaum messbare Vorteile, während sie strategisch mit dem großen Risiko behaftet ist, dass die USA militärisch angreifen. Ein Einsatz einzelner Chemiegranaten durch die Assad-Truppen wäre deshalb im höchsten Maße irrational.''
