Dear friends and colleagues,
We invite your organisation to sign the attached Open letter on EU research and innovation funding. (Details on how to sign are below).
In February, the European Commission published a Green paper 'Towards a Common Strategic Framework for EU Research and Innovation funding'.
We are extremely concerned about this paper since it places research and innovation almost exclusively under the prism of competitiveness and the market.
To properly address our many social, political, economic and environmental problems, we need a significant shift of current European research and innovation policies away from competitiveness and corporate influence towards more democratic processes and different R&I priorities.
The stakes are high - billions of euros of taxpayers? money.
HEAL has therefore joined a number of other public interest groups in signing onto this letter.
We invite your organisation to also sign, and to circulate to other NGOs and scientists? organisations for their signature.
TO SIGN please send a message to openletter_csf2011(at)sciencescitoyennes.org
We need as many signatures from different organisations as possible.
The letter
* Will be sent to the president of the European Commission Barroso, Commissioners and services of the European Commission, Members of the European Parliament, Representatives of Member States on June 29. (THEREFORE PLEASE DO NOT publish it before then)
* Will be transformed into a public petition after June 29.
The NGOs will also
· *Organise an event on R&I at the European Parliament this autumn
* Write an alternative framework by the end of the year
We'll keep you informed about the further steps.
