Hi all, I wanted you to know that at the same time that there is increased momentum for verified voting, there is a real danger that it won't be implemented during this election.   If you don't want Bush to be (s)elected by mistakes or hacking, please take a few minutes to do these actions (and copy leaflet toward end of email to do more later).  Thanks, Cheryl

(1) Calls, and/or faxes, and/or emails--New: Contact Senator Graham
(2)For Those In NYC I am hosting a Verified Voting Salon on Thurs, the 8th at 332 E.11th St. at Cinema Classics btwn 1st and 2nd Ave (212)677-6309 with special guest who will demonstrate with a machine why new voting machines are vulnerable
(3)Local VV Info including Rally on July 13th in 19 Locations http://vevo.verifiedvoting.org/verifier/
(4)Sign Up For Anti-Bush Meetups--great to network, find out about how to beat Bush, can send message to meetups, give out leaflets, http://www.meetup.com/browse/polact
(5)Leaflet (new) (this is the National Version, let me know if you want the NY Version)--cut and paste into word processsor--and leave at appropriate places (bookstores, healthfood stores and restaurants, cafes and performance spaces where there is a place for leaflets, etc.)  Go to indymedia.org and find your city on the left side and try protest.net and find your city to find what political events are happening in your area to enjoy and leaflet.   You can also put them under doors, under windshields, or give out at any busy place (take a friend!).   Also print out for yourself to remind yourself to make calls, faxes, emails.

According to an insider I recently talked to, Graham is key to making sure that other Senators co-sponsor S.1980 since he is the original sponsor.   As it is now, the merger bill, S.2313, is unacceptable to many verified voting activists since it includes a state waiver provision which could be used to exempt the type of electronic voting machines that the bill was designed to cover because the language used is too broad.  As a result, either S.1980 must prevail or the language of the state waiver must be narrowed to only apply to lever machines --which is supposed to be the intent of the waiver (or get rid of the state waiver all together).  If either of these scenarios takes place, we will have verified voting for all states by this election, otherwise we will not.

(a)Ask Senator Graham to encourage other senators to support his original bill S.1980.  He should also withdraw support for the merger bill unless he uses his influence to change the merger bill to take out the state waiver provision or make it crystal clear that this waiver only applies to lever machines. Phone (202) 224-3041 -- Fax (202) 224-2237

(b) Call Hillary--If you've done it before, do it again!  It will just show how much you care about the issue (and Clinton's people do not even ask who you are when you call!)--And ask her to Take Out The State Waiver or make it crystal clear that the exception only applies to lever machines From Her Contribution to the Merger Legislation (S.2313). Since the way it is currently written, states with machines that should be covered by this legislation might be granted a waiver, S.1980 remains the best alternative. But if Clinton Changed the merger bill in the above way, then it would become the best alternative and progressives would not be split. Clinton's contact info
Hillary Clinton at (202) 224-4451, fax her at 12022280282 , or email her at http://clinton.senate.gov/email_form.html

(c) Call Your Senators 1800-839-5276 and ask them to Co-sponsor S.1980, tell them it is better than the merger bill because it has not state exemptions and ask them to try to get Clinton to get rid of the state exemption language in the merger bill. (Try to call a few times a week since confusion about the Senate bill is stopping momentum for National Verified Voting.)

(D). We are up to 143 co-sponsors for HR2239, if we get up to 180 co-sponsors, Ney must  have a vote on the bill.  There is increased momentum because of greater press coverage, a favorable EAC decision, and a recent rally in D.C.  So please call, fax, email your Congressperson again to co-sponsor both HR.2239 and 4250 --the latter would give people mistakenly labeled as felons 30 days notice to challenge this since the disenfranchisement of minorities in Florida might now happen nationwide due to the computerization of the voting databases.

MAKE SURE ALL OUR VOTES ARE COUNTED!

(1)
We need to pass HR2239 and its companion bill in the Senate S.1980 to mandate a paper receipt by this presidential election for the new electronic voting machines which computer programers warn are prone to hacking and errors and are run by companies owned by Republican (the CEO of one promised to "Deliver votes to Republicans"!) see www.VerifedVoting.org for more info.

(2) We need to pass H. R. 4250 which will prevent people from being purged from the voting rolls for mistakenly being labeled as felons nationally. This happened in florida, and as a result tens of thousands voters--predominantly African Americans were wrongly purged.
