Cellular telephones and effects on the brain: The head as an antenna and brain tissue as a radio receiver.

Weinberger Z, Richter ED.
Jerusalem College of Technology, Jerusalem, Israel

Abstract:

Headache and other neuropsychological symptoms occur in users of cellular telephones, and controversy exists concerning risks for brain cancer.

We hypothesize these effects result from the head serving as an antenna and brain tissue as a radio receiver. The frequencies for transmission and reception by cellular telephones, about 900MHz for analog and 1800MHz for digital transmission, have wavelengths of  33-35 and 16-17cm, respectively.

Human heads are oval in shape with a short axis about 16 to 17cm in length. Near the ear there will be a cross-section in the head with an axis half the wavelength of RF/MW transmissions of 900MHz and equal to the wavelength of RF/MW transmissions at 1800MHz.

Therefore, the human head can serve as a lossy resonator for the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the cellular telephone, absorbing much of the energy specifically from these wavelengths.

Brain cells and tissues demodulate the cell-phone's audio frequencies from the radio frequency carrier. Low audio frequencies in the ranges of alpha and beta waves affect these waves and thereby influence brain function.

These effects state the case for a precautionary policy.

Cellular phones or mobile phones

Klaus:  Every government knows that in return for the convenience of making calls from anywhere, people are willing to pay for a device which emits a signal 24 hours a day. That allows the government to keep track of those persons' movements (and when in use, their conversations). No government will ever declare these devices unhealthy just because the stooges who carry them are falling dead.

The cause of Cancer

Dear Sir,
I have been researching the cause of Cancer for over ten years. About 9 months ago I found the technical data needed to support my theory. I'm attaching my Cancer report for your information.

I one of your messages, a gentleman said the he put on a aluminum bowl to shield his brain from EMR radiation's. Please pass to him that aluminum won't shield EMR radiation's. Thanks. I also provide EMR, EMF and Geopathic radiation checks of homes and business.

Regards,
Delbert Parkinson

THE MAIN CAUSE OF CANCER is the 7-13% of Linear Alkyl BENZENE Sulfonic acid (LAS) in Powder Laundry Detergent. The LAS chemicals remain in the clothes when they are washed. They are absorbed into the body when worn. See Dr Henry Lai, University Washington  message below.

Del,
I think the most interesting paper is the first one. It shows that linear alkyl benzene sulfonate is a potential carcinogen.

Dr. Henry Lai

Wu Y, Shen Y.
Genotoxic effects of linear alkyl benzene sulfonate, sodium pentachlorophenate and dichromate on Tetrahymena pyriformis. J Protozool 1992 Jul-Aug;39(4):454-6 Institute of Hydrobiology, Academia Sinica, Wuhan, People's Republic of China.

DNA in macro- and micronuclei of Tetrahymena pyriformis treated with linear alkyl benzene sulfonate (LAS) and sodium pentachlorophenate (PCP-Na) were determined by microspectrophotometry. The effects on rate of formation of macronuclear DNA extrusion bodies were also studied. We found DNA content of micronuclei in 0.14 PPM LAS and 0.9 ppb PCP-Na was lower than in that of the control, and LAS was able to increase the formation rate of macronuclear DNA extrusion bodies (the formation rate was 54% in 11.3 PPM LAS and 25.6% in 16.7 PPM dichromate). We concluded that 0.14-PPM LAS (below the maximum acceptable toxicant concentration) were Genotoxic, whereas 0.014-PPM LAS were not. Dichromate 0.05 ppm and 0.9 ppb PCP-Na, equal to and below the maximum acceptable toxicant concentration, respectively, were potentially Genotoxic.

Stenton SC, Dennis JH, Walters EH, Hendrick DJ. Asthmagenic properties of a newly developed detergent ingredient: sodium iso-nonanoyl oxybenzene sulphonate. Br J Ind Med. 1990 Jun;47(6):405-10 Chest Unit, Newcastle General Hospital, University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The suspicion that a newly developed detergent ingredient, sodium iso-nonanoyl oxybenzene sulphonate (SINOS), was inducing asthma among a workforce led to a series of inhalation challenge tests to determine the specificity and dose response characteristics of its asthma provoking properties. Three previously exposed workers, three non-exposed non-asthmatic controls, and three non-exposed asthmatic controls were challenged with SINOS 0.01-100 micrograms and another chemically similar surface active detergent ingredient, linear alkyl benzene sulphonate (LAS) 0.01-100 micrograms. Asthmatic symptoms, late falls in FEV1, and increases in non-specific bronchial responsiveness were seen after the inhalation of SINOS in all three workers, confirming SINOS as a cause of occupational asthma. No changes were seen after the inhalation of SINOS in either group of control subjects nor after LAS in any subject. These findings suggest that SINOS causes asthma through a specific hypersensitivity mechanism unrelated to its surface-active properties.

Misra V, Lal H, Viswanathan PN, Murti CR. 45Ca uptake from water by snails (Lymnaea vulgaris) in control and detergent-polluted samples. Ecotoxicol Environ Saf 1984 Feb;8(1):97-9

A biostatic assay method involving 45Ca uptake into shells and tissues of snails (Lymnaea vulgaris) in 72 hr was developed to follow the effect of detergent-polluted water on ecosystems. There was a marked decrease in the 45Ca uptake by shells and tissues of linear alkyl benzene sulfonate-exposed animals as compared to controls. No change in 45Ca uptake was observed in dead shells, thereby excluding the possibility of passive exchange.

Question: Would you knowingly absorb small portions of poison every day into your body? You are if you are washing your clothes that were laundry with powder detergent. There are three-web sites to help research the cancer-causing LAS problem.
1. www.chemistry.co.nz/detergent_class.htm this web site will provide you with all of the LAS information in powder detergents. They call LAS with a different name of DDBSA.
2. www.netcomuk.co.uk/~rpeters1auf1det.htm this web site will show you how the powder detergent is assembled.
3. www.pg.com/about_pg/corporate/sustainability/fabric_home.jhtm1 this web site will show you the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) that are required and are reported to OSHA. When you link any of the powder detergents, you will see the 7-13% of  "Linear alkyl benzene Sulfonate" (LAS) that is in all of the powder detergents.

To check for powder laundry detergent that is remaining in your clothes after you have washed them, rinse and wring out in hot water your underclothes 3-4 times to see, feel, and smell cancer slime that is left in your rinse water and clothes. The amount can be very small, but still very toxic. The 10-12 "moist" patches that are used to administer/deliver chemicals into your body are at Micro to Nano gram levels. The "moist" benzene detergents in your clothes when you wear them can be 1000 times stronger. The bottom line is to prevent most cancers. Don't use powder laundry detergents that have benzene. Liquid detergents don't have the benzene molecule.

FAMILIES LOSE LEGAL BID TO HALT RADIO MAST

11:00 - 26 November 2002

Families fighting plans for a high-powered radio mast near a Stroud school lost their legal fight in the High Court yesterday.

People living around the police station in the Five Valleys town were worried about mobile masts necessary for the upgrading of the police radio network being sited just 60 yards from a primary school.

The case, spearheaded by Castle Street resident Susan Trevett, asked a judge to overturn a ruling granting planning approval for masts in her area. Her lawyers told Mr Justice Sullivan, sitting in London, that there were anxieties over the "unknown and unquantified risks associated with radiation from mobile phone antennae", including possible biological effects, which were not being taken into account in guidelines relied on by the planning authorities.

If the challenge had succeeded it would have meant the £2.9billion contract for the police network having to be reconsidered.

The case marked the first High Court challenge to the siting of masts for the network, called Airwave, which uses a controversial new technology called TETRA.

The Lancashire branch of the Police Federation said in July that 173 officers had reported falling ill after Airwave was introduced. The county was one of the first places in the country to adopt the service.

Richard Buxton, solicitor for Ms Trevett, said before yesterday's court hearing: "At the moment one's perception is that these masts are being installed with no more than lip service being paid to residents' concerns over possible health risks. "If we are successful, planning inspectors will have to look much more carefully at those concerns, which are very widespread."

In court David Wolfe, appearing for Ms Trevett, said she was seeking to challenge a decision to allow planning permission for new telecom equipment on three separate sites. The site of most concern to her was near her home, at Stroud police station, where an existing mast was to be replaced with a 13-metre mast, antennae and two microwave dishes.

The police station is 50 metres from Stroud Valley primary school's junior department.

The other two sites are at Selsley Common, part of the Cotswold designated area of outstanding natural beauty, and the West Ridge site to the north of Wotton-under-Edge.

But Mr Justice Sullivan ruled the inspector's decision was "impeccable" and there was no substance in the challenge.

Stop the Byzantio
by  Radagast on 29 November 2002 @ 03:03 PM

Please act now to prevent yet another oil disaster.

The Prestige, which broke in half and sank off the coast of  Spain in the third week of November, was an aging oil tanker operating under a "flag of convenience" - registered with a nation unconnected with its owners to avoid or reduce regulation.

Now the owner of the thousands of tonnes of spilled oil, Crown Resources, has loaded more fuel oil on another dilapidated tanker, the Byzantio. The Byzantio is also a flag of convenience vessel (this time registered with Malta). It is currently in port in Estonia, and is destined for Singapore.
