Dear Mr. Nohlgren:    With reference to your article titled "Closing in on Alzheimers:"  :  http://www.sptimes.com/2007/02/27/Lifetimes/Closing_in_on_Alzheim.shtml

Early Onset Alzheimers Disease (EOAD) is now being diagnosed in large numbers in spite of the fact that less than 5% of Alzheimers cases are really genetic.

This means that "environment" is the cause!!!

My husband improved on three areas of his neuropsych tests -- Executive Function -- after I moved his electric clock radio off his nightstand.   I also discontinued his statin (Lipitor) which is well-known to cause memory problems.   I started him on a large number of supplements such as Coenzyme Q-10, selenium, magnesium, Omega 3 fish oil, Aceytl L-Carnitine, Lecithin and more.  The single most important thing I have done to keep him out of a locked ward in a facility is to start him on Melatonin (no added Vitamin B-6) at night.   He no longer wakens in an angry, delusional state.  I give him 3 of the regular 3 mg. Melatonin capsules plus one Melatonin w/theanine (a component of green tea).

The pharmacetical industry knows full well that statins rob one's brain of Coenzyme Q-10.  A Merck patent provided for combination statin and Coenzyme Q-10.   Electromagnetic fields/electromagnetic radiation (EMF's/EMR) also decreases persons natural production of the vital enzyme, Co-Q-10.

When I discussed my husband's case with Dr. Russel Reiter (University of Texas/San Antonio -- referred to as "godfather of Melatonin research" -- author of the book, "Melatonin") while attending the First International Children With Leukaemia Conference in London in 2004, he said if my husband had been taking Melatonin all along, he may never have developed Alzheimers.

My husband is now said not to have Alzheimers afterall but still suffers moderate to severe memory loss and cognitive impairment.  I believe sleeping close to an electrical item while taking statins is "a deadly combination" -- probable doubling/tripling of adverse effects of statins.   Cholesterol is actually "protective of the brain"  ( see  Dr. Duane Graveline's website:  www.spacedoc.net  ) .

Two of our grandsons were diagnosed with rare immune deficiencies.  Their IgG subclass deficiencies were rare because they were "AGING!!!"    The boys were infant/toddler stages at the time I discovered they were sleeping close to bedroom walls opposite electric meters.   We were told they may develop Leukemia or other cancers.  We were asked if children had died in the family.   Blood tests proved "no genetic link...."

The boys "got well" after taking them out of waterbeds and placing regular beds against different walls in their respective bedrooms.

I conducted guinea pig studies in my home by placing cages against bedroom wall on which the electric meter is mounted.   Each guinea pig's immune function changed drastically.  Their white blood cell tests indicated severe neutropenia, lymphocytosis and hypersegmented neutrophils (slowed DNA synthesis).  One out of each set of two died within 30 days of exposure.   One lived several more years in our basement in magnetic fields from the two high voltage powerlines on our boulevard plus currents on waterpipe going under the cage.   She died from "Reactive Renal Amyloidosis" -- "rare" and in the "TSE family of diseases" (mad cow disease).

Medications for Alzheimers are often not tolerated and in my husband's case, Namenda exacerbated his symptoms.   We have been told the medications may only slow progression,.  It appears to me that "the price is too high" considering the many adverse effects.

You may be interested in accessing an email I sent to Dr. Marilyn Albert, a member of the new Alzheimers' Advisory Board Task Force appealing for help in informing the public about the need to move electric items and some telephone equipment away from beds:

I have not yet received a reply from Dr. Albert.   "Silence" on behalf of decision-makers, industry and government can no longer be tolerated!!!

This is "an avoidable healthcare crisis" -- there are many things that can be done to help mitigate at least some of the exposures while awaiting funding for future studies to determine safer distances from all other sources of EMF/EMR such as high voltage powerlines, telecommunications' antennae, WiFi as well as cell phone exposures.

Societies around-the-world can no longer afford not to immediately inform citizens of the vital need to reduce bedside electrical exposures!!!     Infants and children are sick and dying from Leukemia!!!  Leukaemia does not take 10 years to develop!!!    The costs to society due to all EMF/EMR chronic, prolonged exposures are enormous!!!!

Please help the innocent!!!    Joanne
