An Amnesty 2004 Campaign for the Human
Rights of EHS sufferers?

Dear Fiona: As Amnesty International approaches the end of its
2003
campaign for the rights of the mentally ill, I am writing to
you again
to state my dismay at the following: This campaign by a leading
Human
Rights organisation adamantly refused to address grave violations
to the
Human Rights of the vast numbers of EHS (electrohypersensitive)
persons
internationally who have been misdiagnosed as mentally ill,
forced to
take inappropriate anti-psychotic medication that often increases
their
suffering and as a final outrage are confined to psychiatric
facilities
with unbearably severe electromagnetic radiative emissions for
their EHS
condition.
My earlier open letter to you regards this issue is archived
with the
date 15/1/03 on Citizens Initative Omega site (via Google),
followed
with your 13/2/03 response. The wording of your response ("While
we
appreciate your particular difficulty in trying to assert your
right to
be correctly identified as electrosensitive, our campaign will
promote
the rights of people with mental illness") suggests that you
do not
appreciate the vast numbers of EHS sufferers who have been subjected
to
the appalling medical treatment outlined in my introduction
above and
who now have to live out the rest of their lives falsely labelled
with
mental illnesses they do not have. Additionally, in ignoring
the entire
EHS tragic medical bungling and insisting that your campaign
would not
question the validity of any mental illness labelling, EHS
patient-victims have been forced to remain firmly throughout
your 2003
campaign-- although their very presence and human rights grievances
were
ignored by you--with the mentally ill population. This is an
absurd
situation: compelled to identify and remain with a group whose
grievances were to be addressed while then deliberately ignoring
the EHS
members' presence, ignoring the innumerable Human Rights violations
this
EHS group sought to have redressed and most of all ignoring
their voices
stridently letting you know they had been misidentified and
wanted out
of there in the first place.
I believe Amnesty International's cavalier treatment of EHS
persons
Human Rights during its 2003 Human Rights for the Mentally Ill
campaign
has ended up wounding very deeply indeed by perpetrating further
Human
Rights violations against this vast group. The only way it can
now
redress the damage is by A.I. launching a campaign in our support
at the
earliest opportunity, 2004 if possible.
May I suggest that such a campaign while giving comprehensive
coverage
to the wide variety of Human Rights abuses suffered by EHS persons
(refer to Citizen Initiative Omega, the Swedish EHS support
site,
FEB.SE, www.powerwatch.org.uk
archives for numerous examples of these)
highlights two major aspects of being misdiagnosed as mentally
ill:
violating the right to one's good name/libel; the redefining
of selfhood
imposed on the patient/victim in such tragic cases.
Regards EHS misdiagnosis and libel: The Irish Constitution specifically
includes a citizen's basic right to have her good name upheld
by the
state. I have alluded to the libellous nature in the medical
error of
pronouncing a sane person insane/psychotic/paranoid schizophrenic
in a
recent communication with Mr. Des Hogan, at the Irish Human
Rights
Commission. As it cuts to the quick of the matter, I will quote
the
relevant excerpt below:
-----------------------------
November 8, 2003
Dear Mr. Hogan:
. . . The concluding sentence in my August 12th appeal statement
to you
(a copy of my entire statement is pasted at end of this letter)
reads as
follows: "It is not an exaggeration to say that what has been
done to me
is equivalent to the very worst libel and due to this medical
error I
have been doomed to a quality of life that is socially and in
many other
ways a death-sentence." And verily, the close to seven years
that has
passed since I returned to the country of my birth, in late
1996, to be
tricked into a psychiatric ward and forced to take anti-psychotic
medication that I had a very serious reaction to, almost every
day of it
has felt like a death sentence. The reason for this is due to
my
hitherto good name as a sane, emotionally stable, sociable,
intelligent
person being destroyed permanently by that medical misdiagnosis
in Cork.
I have used the word libel repeatedly to describe the permanent
damage
to my reputation that I have suffered. And the Irish State has
a duty to
protect the good name of each citizen from libel. In THE IRISH
TIMES
article on libel and the media--"The Right to one's good name
is as
important as freedom of expression" (Thursday, October 20, 2003,
page
14)--barrister Jim O'Callaghan points out: "Rather than being
a relic of
British colonialism, the right to one's good name was one of
the
progressive provisions introduced by the drafters of Bunreacht
nahEireann. Its origins extend beyond the narrow constrains
of the
English common law. . . ." He also notes: "It is difficult to
see how
any self-respecting republic could remove the right of each
citizen to
his or her good name."
But that deletion of my constitutional right to my good name
is
precisely what was done to me, an Irish citizen, here in Ireland,
and
yet I was denied all legal help by Mr. O'Callaghan's professional
associates to redress this terrible injustice! I have enumerated
in
documents submitted to you how I petitioned every possible Irish
legal
source and was denied help by each one!
I also noted in my appeal letter to you that it is regrettable
that
instances of medical misdiagnosis of patients as
psychotics/schizophrenics has not been firmly put on the agenda
of Human
Rights violations, although there are numerous anecdotal reports
of such
misdiagnoses happening. Even in a recent letter to THE IRISH
TIMES,
("Prisons and the mentally ill", Friday, October 31) Edward
Boyne
observes that due to pressure on prison doctors' "The dangers
of
misdiagnosis are considerable in these circumstances.
To certify a person as insane is a most serious step with considerable
consequences for that person's future." Yes, indeed, it is the
very
worst stigma a person could be lumbered with, as I know from
personal
experience! Let me quote again how Dr. Rosemary McCabe describes
society's attitude toward schizophrenia: "Society, for the most
part,
regards a person with schizophrenia as somewhat disgraced and
incompetent. The label 'schizophrenia' casts doubt on one's
capacity to
act as a rational human being and calls into question one's
value in
society in a way which, for example, 'cancer patient' does not."
(Refer
to # 11 in copy of affidavit of June 5, 2001, which I submitted
to the
IHRC) My good name could not have been libelled in a worst way
than this.
. . .
----------------------------
Even a brief report in today's The Irish Times (page 4) notes
a judge's
comments on the serious consequences to one's reputation which
results
from libel: "In a small community, she said, a person's good
name is
priceless, and the damage done could be incalculable."
Regards the Human Rights violations ensuing from the redefining
of
selfhood imposed upon a person when misdiagnosed as mentally
ill, I will
offer the following quotation from an online source:
"THE POWER OF LABELS
In 1952, when the first APA Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
of Mental
Disorders (DSM) appeared, there were 106 forms of psychiatric
abnormalities listed. Forty-two years later, over 300 were listed,
from
'Mental Depression' and 'Schizophrenia' to such designations
'Hypoactive
Sexual Desire Disorder,' 'Disorder of Written Expression' (which
involves poor grammar and bad spelling and handwriting), and
'lexical
anhedonia' (the inability to feel pleasure while reading). What
are the
implications of so labelling people?
Labels have a tendency to become self-fulfilling prophecies.
People tend
to conform to the labels others apply to them, which is referred
to as
the PYGMALION EFFECT. In writing of the works of Michel Foucault
and Ian
Hacking, Mary Douglas writes in HOW INSITITUTIONS THINK: As
fast as new
medical categories (hitherto unimagined) were invented, or new
criminal
or sexual or moral categories, new kinds of people spontaneously
came
forward in hordes to accept the labels and to live accordingly.
The
responsiveness to new labels suggests extraordinary readiness
to fall
into new slots and to let selfhood be defined. . . . People
are not
merely re-labelled and newly made prominent, still behaving
as they
would behave whether so labelled or not. The new people behave
differently than they ever did before. (p.100)
What precisely is this saying? It is stating bluntly that frequently
people identify with their labels. So, in the case of EHS
victim-patients being misdiagnosed as psychotics not only are
they being
subjected to the worst form of libel but they also need to have
remarkably high resilience to the power of medical labelling
not to
start behaving as if really mentally ill!
Please share what I have to say with your colleagues and encourage
them
to give due consideration to launching a campaign in defence
of the
Human Rights of EHS victims.
Sincerely,
Imelda OConnor

More mobiles, and sparrows take flight
----------------------------------------
Ambarish Mukherjee
New Delhi, Nov. 30
THE wireless telecom revolution is catching on at the expense
of a tiny
winged creature the house sparrow. The tiny birds are
fast
disappearing from cities "contaminated" with electromagnetic
waves
arising out of increased number of mobile handsets.
According to Dr S. Vijayan, Director of the Salim Ali Centre
for
Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), "A number of studies
has been
conducted to find out the relationship between the increase
in
electromagnetic waves and the decrease in the number of sparrows.
A
positive correlation has been found between them."
"There have been studies in Spain which showed that sparrows
disappear
from cities where electromagnetic contamination is very heavy,"
Dr
Vijayan added.
A study was initiated earlier this year in London by the British
Trust
for Ornithology to investigate whether the explosion of electromagnetic
waves from portable handsets is wiping out sparrows in London.
The
British study involves 30,000 birdwatchers who will examine
the urban
sparrow population near cell-phone masts, where electromagnetic
fields
are most concentrated.
London has witnessed a steep fall in its sparrow population
a 75 per
cent fall since 1994, which coincides with the emergence of
the cell-phone.
Electromagnetic waves travel through the air to the cell-phone
masts
located above tall buildings in the cities. These waves then
travel to
and from between the handset and the tower while one is using
the
handset, and this results in increased electromagnetic contamination
in
the air.
The rapidly increasing number of cell-phone subscribers is resulting
in
higher concentration level of electromagnetic waves in the air
which
clashes with the earth's electromagnetic field.
Dr Vijayan also pointed out that sparrows are found to be disappearing
from areas where mobile towers are installed.
SACON has also initiated a detailed study to find out how exactly
these
small birds are being affected.
"These are all circumstantial evidences. Now we need to prove
how it is
exactly affecting the sparrows. My feeling is that it probably
affects
their central nervous system. We are conducting studies with
inputs from
various cities on the falling number of sparrows in which the
effect of
electromagnetic contamination from mobile phones are also being
examined," Dr Vijayan said.
He said increased exposure to electromagnetic waves also affects
small
animals. For example, in rats, it is found that the sperm count
has
decreased while in the case of chicken embryonic, mortality
has become
very high. There could be more examples, he added.

Subject: [Keelynet] thin helium ion 'microbeams' induce death
in surrounding
cancer cells
Hola Folks!
This 'btstander effect' to kill cancer cells is quite fascinating
and
might be triggered with other methods, including the use of
subtle
energy devices;
http://www.msnbc.com/news/999844.asp?0cv=CB20
Microbeams may destroy cancer cells - Futuristic beams could
kill
diseased tumors, study says
LONDON, Dec. 2 - Scientists testing the effects of microbeams
have
discovered that targeting just a few cells with the futuristic
beams can
cause massive destruction to other diseased cells.
'We're finding that it's possible to hit just a handful of cells
with
much lower doses and let the cells' natural suicide machinery
do the
rest.' - DR. KEVIN PRISE - Gray Cancer Institute
SCIENTISTS AT Britain's Cancer Research UK charity have dubbed
it the
"bystander effect" because the cancer cells zapped by the microbeams
not
only die but send out suicide signals to other abnormal cells,
telling
them to self destruct.
"We used to assume that the only way to kill cancer cells with
radiotherapy was to hit every in Prise, of the charity's Gray
Cancer
Institute in southern England, on Tuesday.
"Now we're finding that it's possible to hit just a handful
of cells
with much lower doses and let the cells' natural suicide machinery
do
the rest," he added in a statement.
The findings could have important implications for improving
the
effectiveness of radiotherapy for cancer sufferers because hitting
just
one cell with the microbeam, which launches streams of helium
ions a
thousandth of a millimeter wide, has an effect on so many other
cells.
Prise and his colleagues, who reported their findings in the
journal
Cancer Research, tested microbeams in the laboratory on brain
cancer
cells that were highly resistant to conventional radiotherapy.
Although
they targeted the beam at a single cell, it had an impact and
triggered
a significant proportion of other cells to commit suicide in
a process
known as apoptosis.
Cancer develops when abnormal cells do not self destruct but
continue
dividing and form tumors.
"If we could enhance the bystander effect within tumors, we
could
develop much more effective systems of radiotherapy, perhaps
using lower
doses to reduce side effects," Prise added.
"But of course it also means that even very low doses of radiation
may
be doing more damage to normal cells than we'd thought, so we'll
have to
look for ways of protecting healthy tissue more effectively."
An estimated 50 percent of patients diagnosed with cancer would
benefit
from radiotherapy, which kills cancerous cells with tight beams
or
radiation aimed at specific areas of the body.
The scientists said the bystander effect is linked to a molecule
called
nitric oxide which plays a role in cell suicide. Nitric oxide
seems to
be important in sending out suicide signals in cells when they
are hit
by radiation.
"Making sure that there are high amounts of the molecule produced
within
tumors may be essential to optimise the bystander effect and
improve
treatments," Prise said.
"We also think the mechanisms involved in the bystander effect
might be
different in healthy at protect normal tissue from radiotherapy
while
leaving cancer cells more vulnerable," he added.

The Sonic Weapon of Vladimir Gavreau
------------------------------------------
Hello,
I think to have - also received by another informer - "WHAT
did this":
http://www.borderlands.com/archives/arch/gavreaus.htm
In the business of military research, Dr. Gavreau believed he
had
discovered a new and previously "unknown weapon" in these infrasounds.
Aware of the natural explosives by which infrasonics are generated,
Dr.
Gavreau began to speculate on the application of infrasonics
as a
defense initiative. The haphazard explosive effects of natural
infrasound in thunderclaps were quite effective in demonstrating
what an
artificial "thunder-maker" could do. But, how could a thunderclap
be
artificially generated in a compact system? These thoughts stimulated
theoretical discussions on the possibility of producing coherent
infrasound: an infrasonic "laser".
