Hi Klaus: attached is the email response I received from Fiona Crowley, officer in charge of Amnesty's (Ireland) 2003 Human Rights Campaign for the Mentally Ill. Before drafting a response, I would greatly appreciate input from your members, so that arguments in support of the legitimacy of our EHS Human Rights violations being included in this Mental Illness campaign are maximised.

A google entry of "Amnesty International Mental Health Report 2003" will give access to a lot of print articles on this topic.

Human Rights Campaign for the Mentally Ill omits medical misdiagnoses

Dear Imelda,

I am Amnesty's Policy Officer with responsibility for the mental illness campaign. I wrote the article in the Amnesty Ireland article to which you refer.

While we appreciate your particular difficulty in trying to assert your right to be correctly identified as electrosensitive, our campaign will promote the rights of people with mental illness. We in no way imply that electrosensitivity is a mental illness. As you are aware, Amnesty is not an expert on mental illness, but rather an expert on international human rights law.

We are campaigning very generally for the services and therapies that should be available to people with mental illness according to international human rights law and best practice. I'm sure you'll agree that a great many people in Ireland, as throughout the world, have a mental illness, and for those in need of mental health care, the Irish mental health system is in much need of improvement.

As an Amnesty member, you are also familiar with our need to employ the language of international standards, and to follow the guidance of UN agencies like the World Health Organisation, as to do otherwise would mean that we could not hold states accountable under international law.

I hope that this clarifies our position in relation to mental illness.

If you have any queries or comments, please feel free to let me know.

Regards

Fiona Crowley

Comments on message " Occupational exposure to RF/MW and Microwave sickness"

from Kathy Hawk to Don Maisch

Hi Don:

As a RF/MW consultant, I have had 2 noteworthy examples that seem appropriate to mention here.

The first transpired in the early '90s when a cellular tower was constructed (without protest from my client) on the neighboring property. It seems that my client was using a weed-wacker to trim the grass near the property line when he sustained a detached retina which he did not attribute to the connection between rf/mw transmissions from the cellular antennas and the metal in the weed-wacker until the next time the trimming had to be done by his son. The son (a teenager) also sustained a detached retina while operating the weed-wacker at approximately the same spot on the property.

The second is from my "Case Study In The Heartland" copyright 1996 which I will quote.

"In the fall of that year (1990) Mr. Doe, who had been working on one of the roofs on the tower side of the farm (approximately 1,000 feet from the tower), on a drizzly overcast day, came in that evening and said: "My ears are killing me. I don't know what's wrong with my ears." By the next morning, he had holes that were quite deep, and the diameter of a pencil burned into the soft tissue on the back of his ears. Since that time, when he works on the roofs on the tower side of the farm, the exact same thing happens in the exact same place - usually appearing within 24 hours and on overcast days. The ears take about six weeks to heal- much like a burn. It was just recently learned that neighboring farmers have been experiencig the same ear problems. They attribute this phenomena to the tower because it had never occurred before the tower was erected but has consistently occurred since. Permanent scar tissue remains."

That particular tower was very low-power and analog 400' tall. I have seen the engineeering reports, and believe me, you've never seen so many zeros in your life! When their congressman was consulted, the Does were told that if the company was operating within its license, there was nothing that could be done. The interesting thing about the "independent testing" was that while the Does were not told when the testing was to be done, cellular subscribers in the area complained that their phones were not working even 2 and 3 miles away. This indicated to me that the facility was not operating at full capacity when the measurements were taken. No surprise when the engineering firm determined that the emissons were well within the safety guidelines.

The Deartment of Health and Human Services, Center For Disease Control, National Institute For Occuational Safety and Health also took measurements. The health physicist admitted that there was a lot missing from the "independent report" but he also found that the comany was well within the safety guidelines. He used a calibrated NARDA EMR Monitor, Model 8616 connected to a NARDA electric field isotropic probe, Model 8621-D that covers the frequency range from 0.3 MHz th 40 GHz.

Another interesting point was that Mr. Doe was also diagnosed with premature cataracts at this time. There was no family history of cataracts.

One more personal point. I have been sensitive to things-electrical all of my life. In fact, I am a pefect gausmeter. I light up if I sit near a lamp. My skin becomes brilliant red, and if I stay in the field too long it will peal just like a sunburn. If it didn't sting, I always thought that the skin part of my sensitivity was actually almost nice - the color is that good.

However, last July 7th, when my husband had to have a quintuple by-pass, my skin was so badly burned by the hospital equipment that I have lost all of the feeling in my forehead! It feels itchy, but I can scratch it till it bleeds and not feel a thing. I have no idea how long this will last. Any thoughts from you or anyone on the list?

Digital Angel Corporation Receives FDA and USDA Clearances to Market Its
New 'Bio-Thermo(TM)' Implantable Microchip for Use in the Animal Kingdom

Tuesday February 11, 10:28 am ET

The Company's first fully integrated 'temperature-sensing implantable microchip' builds on its patented RFID implantable microchip technology

SO. ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Digital Angel Corporation (Amex: DOC - News) announced today that it has received written clearances from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to market its new "temperature-sensing implantable microchip" - which the Company has trademarked as "Bio-Thermo(TM)" - for use in pets, livestock, and other animals.

Bio-Thermo is the Company's first fully integrated implantable bio-sensing microchip that can transmit a signal containing accurate temperature readings to the Company's proprietary RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) scanners.

The Company views the introduction of the new Bio-Thermo microchip as a significant stepping stone. The clearances will allow the Company to move forward with its business plan and bring this technology to the animal market in the near future. The Bio-Thermo technology - along with additional biosensors being developed by the Company - is built on the Company's "keystone" implantable RFID microchip patents. The Company believes this Bio-Thermo technology and other biosensors in the future will provide vital internal diagnostics about the health of animals more efficiently and accurately than the invasive techniques used in the industry today. With this new technology, accurate temperature readings can be obtained by simply passing the Company's proprietary handheld scanner over the animal or by having the animal walk through a portal scanner.

Today's Bio-Thermo announcement is part of the Company's long-held strategic objective to turn unique, vital data into critical, life-enhancing information. This development is the result of the Company's long-standing pioneering effort, building on its 1993 "keystone" RFID patent, to integrate reliable biosensor technology with implantable RFID microchips, thereby enabling non-invasive, wireless monitoring systems.

DIGITAL ANGEL CORP. UNVEILS FIRST IN SERIES OF MINIATURIZED GPS SYSTEMS FOR MOBILE CONNECTIVITY TO PEOPLE AND ASSETS

Unit Is Viewed As Key Entry In Emerging Market For Connectivity Devices That Are Small, Mobile And Wireless

Las Vegas, NV, January 9, 2003 -- Digital Angel Corporation (AMEX: DOC) today unveiled the first in a series of new miniaturized GPS locator products for mobile connectivity to people, pets and assets at the annual Consumer Electronics Show here. The company's exhibit is in South Hall 4 at Booth 33267.

The new unit is considered an important development in the emerging market for small, portable devices that provide wireless, mobile connectivity between people, or between people and their pets or assets. The device also offers emergency and medical alert features.

The device enables the location of a person, pet or asset to be tracked by authorized people via GPS mapping software over dial-up or high-speed Internet connections at a special website, or by simply calling the Digital Angel AlertCall Center.

The lightweight wearable unit combines a GPS chip set, modem and antenna in a single device weighing less than 3.5 ounces, making it substantially smaller than the company's current two-piece product.

The company said it is expected to retail for under $300.

Officials said the unit incorporates the GSM/GPRS cellular platform using Wavecom, Inc.'s new WISMO high performance modem. GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) is the cellular platform employed by roughly 80 percent of the world's wireless phone carriers including AT&T Wireless, Cingular wireless and T-Mobile (formerly VoiceStream). Up to now, the company's GPS systems operated only over the CDMA protocol used by Verizon and Sprint.

Digital Angel Corp. distinguishes itself in the field of GPS technology developers by also providing around-the-clock alert monitoring backed by the industry's most experienced 24/7 physician-manned response unit.

The new lightweight units will offer three alert modes initially: Emergency Alert (subscriber sends alert); WanderAlert (signals when subscriber has violated pre-set geographical boundaries for use with parole monitoring or Alzheimer's patients, for example) and Low BatteryAlert (signals when less 30 minutes of power are left).
