Cancer Patients from the Sharon sue millions for the antennas damages

11 families from Porat village demand compensation of 15 million shekels
(=about 3+ million dollars) from the communuaction ministry, the
broadcast authority and Bezeq. "They knew about the radiation, but they ignored"

by Dorit Gabai and Eitan Rabin
Maariv newspaper, 31.3.2003

A lawsuit of more than 15 million shekels against the communication
ministry, Bezeq and the broadcast authority was presented yesterday by
the families from Porat village, who claim to get cancer from the
radiation of the antennas in the village.

In the giant lawsuit, that was presented yesterday in the district court
by the families of 8 of Porat residents who died from cancer, 12 and 17
years old boys who died after they had leukemia. In addition, 3
residents who got cancer lately: 3 years old baby who got cancer in
the nose and eyes when he was several months years old, 18 years old
girl who got brain cancer a year and a half ago and 43 years old who got
cancer in the nose 17 years ago.

A law suit in Zoran also

A similar lawsuit will be presented very soon in Zoran also. In Zoran 25
people got cancer and more than 20 women had misscariage within the last
2 years.

In a meeting that was held yeaterday of the committees heads and the
fight leaders of Porat, Zoran and Ein Sarid, it was decided that this
morning the residents would block the entrance to Hillel station.

Pnina Kanati, of the fight leaders, said yeaterday: If we need we will
fight with the broadcast station people. This is our protest and it is
not the final station. We will not enable entrance to the station, and
if we need, we will put tyres on fire".

From tests that were done by Dr Benny Malenski, a senior advicer of
environmental and occupational health safety, and chairman of the
israeli association of occupational sanitation, it turns out that only
since 13 years ago the radiation was measured. He says that the
measurements were taken only in Zoran and not in Porat. Dr. Malenski
wrote in his expression of opinion which was enclosed to the lawsuit
that "There is no doubt that the radiation levels from the 60's until
the 80's were higher than the levels today."

Malenski clarified that "Considering the significant levels of radiation
exposure, the causal link between the radiation exposure and the cancer
rate among Porat residents has to be acknowledged".

By lawyer David Mena, Porat residents claim that the broadcast
authority, Bezeq and the Communication Ministry neglected in erecting
the transmitters in the place, ignored their responsibility, and hid
information about the danger that was waiting to the residents by the
radiation. It is also claimed that the authorities did not make actions
to reduce the risks to the residents.

"Bezeq, the broadcast authority and the communication ministry used old
equipment and did not fix a protection mechanism from the radiation, by
this way they exposed the residents to damaging factors and damaged
their health" it is written. The relatives of the 8 dead plaintiffs
claim they have to be compensated on their dears' death. 3 plaintiffs
that are alive and have cancer, demand compensation for salaries loss,
pain and suffering, and medical expenses in the past and future.

* from a private converstation with Zoran head of the fight, Yossi
Malka, he says 2 importand things: A. Israel is the first country in the
world where there is an agreement with the government to reduce the
international radio transmitters standard from 87 V/m to 8.7 V/m. B.
Zoran resident plan another lawsuit to the high courts of justice-to
order to close the station, not connected to the decision of the
critisicm committee.

* Today in the newspaper "Haaretz", Israel is the first country in the
world that is going to have the ICNIRP standard as a ...LAW !! Anyway,
it is in the process of making it a law, if nothing will interfer in
its way.

Sweden likely to concede 3G-free zones

March 13, 2003 6:31 PM EST

OSLO, Norway

An increasingly strident campaign to keep third-generation (3G)
telephone masts out of protesting communities won surprising backing
from Sweden's regulator National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS), which
now seems resigned to achieving less than 100-percent national 3G coverage.

PTS information chief Katarina Kämpe told newspaper Dagens Nyheter that
local authority planning should take precedence, and if a community
decided to become a 3G-free zone, that was its right.

The most vocal 3G opponent had been the local authority of Trelleborg.
Mayor Kjell Nilsson declared that Trelleborg would be "a white spot on
the 3G map" until proof was presented that the masts are risk-free.

3G opponents like Miljöcentrum, an independent environmental group,
argued that besides concerns about radiation, the masts are disruptive
eyesores that lower property values in local communities.

3G Infrastructure Services (3GIS), the joint Vodafone, Hi3G and Orange
3G development project, appealed to the parliamentary ombudsmen about
Trelleborg's lack of cooperation.

While that complaint remains unanswered, Sweden's Association of Local
Authorities advised that planning committees should ignore concerns
about radiation when considering granting building permission.

Tele2 chief Lars-Johan Jarnheimer warned recently that Svenska UMTS-net,
the joint Tele2-Telia 3G development, would petition the PTS for an
extension if the backlog of building applications does not clear up
within the next two to three months.

The PTS will now examine how many of the current mast- building
proposals have been granted. A recent survey by the Association of Local
Authorities found that a bit less one in four had been granted, with
most of the others bogged down in bureaucracy.

The authority of Falun has also decided to be a 3G-free area, and
opposition runs high in Växjö, Trollhättan, Eksjö, Falkenberg and Linköping.

Cell Phone fires at Gasstatons!!!! ---- warning for drivers

Passing on this info about cell phone at gas stations:

The Shell Oil Company recently issued a warning after three incidents
in which mobile phones (cell phones) ignited fumes during fueling
operations.

In the first case, the phone was placed on the car's trunk lid during
fueling; it rang and the ensuing fire destroyed the car and the gasoline pump.

In the second, an individual suffered severe burns to their face when
fumes ignited as they answered a call while refueling their car.

And in the third, an individual suffered burns to the thigh and groin as
fumes ignited when the phone, which was in their pocket, rang while they
were fueling their car.

You should know that:

Mobile Phones can ignite fuel or fumes. Mobile phones that light up when
switched on or when they ring release enough energy to provide a spark
for ignition. Mobile phones should not be used in filling stations, or
when fueling lawn mowers, boat, etc. Mobile phones should not be used,
or should be turned off, around other materials that generate flammable
or explosive fumes or dust, i.e., solvents, chemicals, gases, grain dust, etc.

Another safety warning you should know about concerns static electricity.

Below is an email from Pat Cabiling who works at Chevron Texaco's
Richmond Refinery.

Four Rules for Safe Refueling:
1) Turn off engine.
2) Don't smoke.
3) Don't use your cell phone - leave it inside the vehicle or turn it off.
4) Don't reenter your vehicle during fueling.

Bob Renkes of Petroleum Equipment Institute is working on a campaign to
try and make people aware of fires as a result of "static electricity"
at gas pumps. His company has researched 150 cases of these fires. His
results were very surprising:
1) Out of 150 cases, almost all of them were women.
2) Almost all cases involved the person getting back in their vehicle
while the nozzle was still pumping gas. When finished and they went back
to pull the nozzle out the fire started, as a result of static.
3) Most had on rubber-soled shoes.
4) Most men never get back in their vehicle until completely finished.
This is why they are seldom involved in these types of fires.
5) Don't ever use cell phones when pumping gas
6) It is the vapors that come out of the gas that cause the fire, when
connected with static charges.
7) There were 29 fires where the vehicle was reentered and the nozzle
was touched during refueling from a variety of makes and models - some
resulting in extensive damage to the vehicle, to the station, and to the
customer.
8) Seventeen fires that occurred before, during or immediately after the
gas cap was removed and before fueling began.

Mr. Renkes stresses to NEVER get back into your vehicle while filling it
with gas. If you absolutely HAVE to get in your vehicle while the gas is
pumping, make sure you get out, close the door TOUCHING THE METAL,
before you ever pull the nozzle out. This way the static from your body
will be discharged before you ever remove the nozzle.

As mentioned earlier, The Petroleum Equipment Institute, along with
several other companies now, are really trying to make the public aware
of this danger.

You can find out more information by going to http://www.pei.org/ Once
there, click in the center of the screen where it says "Stop Static."

I ask you to please send this information to ALL your family and
friends, especially those who have kids in the car with them while
pumping gas. If this were to happen to them, they may not be able to get
the children out in time.
