Purpose of Consultation
The Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee on Drinking Water has assessed the available information on arsenic with the intent of revising the current guideline for arsenic in drinking water. The purpose of this consultation is to solicit comments on the proposed guideline, on the approach used for its development, and on the potential economic costs of implementing it, as well as to determine the availability of additional exposure data.
The Committee has requested that this document be made available to the public and open for comment. Comments are appreciated, with accompanying justification, if required. Comments can be sent via E-mail to water_eau@hc-sc.gc.ca or by mail to the Committee on Drinking Water Secretariat, Water Quality and Health Bureau, 4th Floor, Sir Charles Tupper Bldg., A.L. 6604B, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0K9. All comments must be received before May 17, 2005.
It should be noted that this supporting document on arsenic in drinking water will be revised following evaluation of comments received, and a maximum acceptable concentration (MAC) for arsenic in drinking water will be established. This document should be considered a draft for comment only.

Objet de la consultation
Le Comité fédéral-provincial-territorial sur l'eau potable a évalué l'information disponible sur l'arsenic en vue de réviser la recommandation en vigueur sur l'arsenic dans l'eau potable. Cette consultation vise B solliciter des commentaires sur la recommandation proposée, sur la démarche suivie pour la formuler et sur les cofts possibles de sa mise en Éuvre; elle vise également B déterminer la disponibilité de données supplé mentaires sur l'exposition.
Le Comité a demandé que l'on mette ce document B la disposition du public pour qu'il puisse le commenter. Les commentaires, avec justification pertinente au besoin, sont les bienvenus. On peut envoyer ses commentaires par courrier électronique B water_eau@hc-sc.gc.ca, ou par la poste au Secré tariat du Comité sur l'eau potable, Bureau de la qualité de l'eau et de la santé, 4Pme étage, Édifice Charles Tupper, I.A. 6604B, Ottawa (Ontario) K1A 0K9. Tous les commentaires doivent nous parvenir avant le 17 mai 2005.

Il faut préciser que ce document d'appui fera l'objet d'une révision aprPs analyse des commentaires reçus et que l'on établira B ce moment une concentration maximale acceptable (CMA) pour l'arsenic dans l'eau potable. Le présent document doit Ltre considéré comme une ébauche pour commentaires seulement.
