HOME TOUR BOOK BLOG ABOUT CONTACT

George Soros has just updated the speech that he has been making on tour. As he wrote last Saturday in a post to his blog on the subject:

I recently revised my speech, and I would like to highlight the following paragraph. It is shocking to me that this has not received more attention.

You can read the full entry and the revised paragraph by visiting Soros' weblog.
Thank you for your interest in receiving email updates from GeorgeSoros.com. George Soros is currently in the midst of his 12-city speaking tour to talk about the war in Iraq and why we must not re-elect President Bush, and has appeared in Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston, Minneapolis, and Columbus. You can watch a video of Soros delivering his original speech and launching the tour at the National Press Club in Washington on C-Span's website.

Soros' message has also been receiving coverage in the press:

"One of the most enticing rationales for invading Iraq was that it could be turned into a model Mideast democracy. Yet, right now, prospects for anything resembling real democracy in Iraq look bleak, even should Iraqi elections be held in January. The Bush team's belief that it could quickly build a secular democracy has been exposed as fantasy. But was this dream ever credible? I put this question to one of the world's most experienced practitioners in supporting grassroots democracy efforts. George Soros, the multibillionaire financier, has spent billions of his own dollars trying to promote open, democratic societies in troubled countries. So what did he think of the Bush efforts in Iraq?"

"The basis of Soros' support of the election of Kerry and opposition to the re-election of President Bush lies in his assessment that Bush's approach has wrecked American foreign policy and constitutes a very serious threat to Americans' domestic freedoms as well. This view is basically what has put the 74-year-old on a trail that has him spending a lot of his money and quite a lot of his time on a tiring political campaign."
Dan Simpson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - 10.13.04 [ View Article ]
