A Call to Action
Re-stake Your
Claim to the American West
Help Protect
America's Special Places from Mining!
Hello,
As a member of Westerners for Responsible Mining,
EARTHWORKS is working to reform the outdated 1872 Mining Law to
protect western communities and water resources. Along with
communities in Nevada, Washington, Idaho, New Mexico, and Oregon, we are
planning a day of action next week to elevate the issue of mining in
the West, the threat it poses to special
places and the need for mining law reform. And we need your help!
The event in Seattle will take
place on October
15th along with similar events in other Western
states as well as Washington, D.C.
In order to raise public awareness of the threat
to special places allowed by the 1872 Mining Law, Westerners for
Responsible Mining staff, mining activists and volunteers like you --
hopefully including
you
-- will be distributing materials about mining to the public in busy
pedestrian areas. We hope to educate

people about the destructive impacts of mining and
send them to the Westerners for Responsible Mining website, www.bettermines.org,
to ultimately enlist their help to fight for mining law reform.
Your help is
needed for leafleting in Seattle.
The more people who participate, the more impact it will have on protecting
special places from the threat of hardrock mining. We are well
prepared with all the materials, now we just need volunteers like you to
help us get our voices heard. Please join us
and “Re-Stake Your Claim to the American West.”
